Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

When HR brings the hammer down

When HR gives notification that your role is being eliminated, what happens next?

I’m hearing some people are being given future termination dates while others are being terminated immediately. And I have seen some posts on this site which claim HR gave a future date which their manager immediately followed with a stop notice as soon as they got back to their desk.

What should we expect?

So by tenure that's what 5 years 10 years, 15 or 20? And from what everyone is saying and what's been out there doesn't seem like it's any particular team or group. Some even say that if you're over 50 you should be on alert

Mine was to my Cigna Outlook Calendar. Questions aren’t really encouraged. It was just “review the package, any questions follow up with the contacts in the package.”

Laid off on 1/18. HR sends out a webex invite to your personal email account for an info session. Questions are only allowed over Slido, so all questions are vetted. No audio allowed from participants. If HR doesn’t know the answer to your question they will skip it.

To the last response, my role was eliminated after 15+ years, and yes - I did choose to do what I felt was right. Regardless of my thoughts, I had team members that I respect. I know what they will be dealing with while having new people come in and try to figure it all out and it’s not their fault, so why be spiteful to them. Honestly, I will only miss the people who worked tirelessly to do their jobs - not the politics.

To the last response….some choose to go out the “right way”? By saying good byes, sharing documents they were working on and cancelling meetings? After being told all you have done for a company no longer means anything especially when you had major contributions and the entire career you built has been dismissed in one sentence? You think we all should have cancelled meetings and said good byes? You clearly have no clue what it’s like to lose your job, your benefits and your money for your family. I hope you never have to act the “right way”.

They are being extremely “thoughtful” about selections in each state just to get in under the WARN radar. You are given a 30 day “notice”, again, to protect Cigna. Your access is typically cut within 24-36 hours of your notice meeting. They really want you to log off immediately…but some choose to go out the correct way, making sure things are available for team members and saying their goodbyes, cancelling meetings, etc. It’s the ones with tenure they’re seeking.

Correct, once you're told you are eliminated, you basically are given a date and you are not expected to work or login. They will also turn off your network access fast.
Now, I have heard of some that are expected to work for the next month, maybe like call center agent type roles. I cannot fathom how they do that though honestly and expect great work knowing they are dismissing you but hey, do great in the meantime.

Who is the rube that keeps down voting info? Why would you do that?

Yes, you still get full pay and accrue PTO without working during the separation month.

So you get regular pay between 1/18 & 2/17 and then your severance starts?

so basically you're still employed/getting paid during that period but not actually logging on?

When they tell you your role has been eliminated, that is your separation date. Mine is 1/18. My termination date is 2/17. You don't go to work in between those dates, so maybe that is where the confusion is.
