Thread regarding CDW layoffs

So… How is Morale on Your Team?

Two key leaders of initiatives we were all told were going to drive 2024 were let go from our team. None of us have a flipping clue where we are headed or if we will be the next ones to get the dreaded invite to tell us we are out due to a change in strategy.

A colleague on another team who has been around awhile advise me to use flex and sick days now, because they aren’t paid out if I’m laid off. Maybe we e should have a mass sick out for 1-2 days.

There is literally no work of substance or value on our team. No meetings, either. We were told to “wait” to continue progress on a new project that was to be our “big thing” for 2024. We haven’t heard boo from our Director in weeks.

It’s just a matter of time. I have an interview Friday.

Yeah, I got cut last year. I knew it was coming for weeks/months, and funny thing, after a few months, two job offers, and a $30k pay bump. Don't live in fear, own it and either look now, or don't complain when you HAVE to look later. Life is greener once you are out of there.

I seem to be coming down with an unusual number of illnesses this year…. I’m sure it’s completely unrelated to the fact that I won’t be paid for accrued sick days when I leave CDW.

Things are definitley slower in areas. No one is really trying to help each other either. Seems like mgmt is very touch and go. It's hard to gauge really .

The severance must be good because almost everyone affected was over 40 and they haven’t sued CDW.

Curious as to what the "IT" is we're bringing anymore. Morale is trash. People are unhappy. GCF is the motivator for so many talented people to leave.

What do you mean?! We're CDW!! Why would your customers buy elsewhere?? Didn't you hear me mention that we're CDW?? Nobody does IT better!!

Arrogance as a sales/go to market strategy isn't working for us anymore, and plenty of our competitors execute better than we do.

We're too siloed, stretched too thin, too rigid, and too damn slow.

Rumor has it they’re sharpening the axe and there will be another round of layoffs in April because sales aren’t improving. Legacy FP in particular is in danger - they have not done well transitioning from gov and small biz to multinational enterprise. The problem isn’t the people who are going to get laid off - it’s the clueless managers who can’t formulate and execute a concrete and well-articulated strategy.

@Abyu+1qHuvCTn First, congrats! I hope it works out great.

Secondly, that’s what many of us industry veterans have been saying - the grass is definitely greener elsewhere. People here are selling themselves short by drinking the CDW Kool Aid. The CDW Kool Aid mob downvotes you into oblivion for saying it, but I’ve worked for a large number of companies in my career and CDW is definitely in the bottom tier. The culture is fake and superficial but people are easily duped. The senior leadership is questionable, to put it kindly.

The morale of my immediate group of coworkers is in the sewer. We’re all wanting to leave but it takes time and in the current tech job market, the few open positions have hundreds of applicants. I’m guessing we won’t see a huge improvement in the job market until middle of next year and that assumes we see a few rate cuts, which may not happen as fast as needed.

I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here – it's been a great learning experience, and I've met some truly wonderful colleagues. While I'm currently exploring new opportunities, I might have to upgrade my autopilot system soon – it's getting a lot of use lately!

It's tough to be excited when a company who cared about Coworkers has done nothing but find ways to reduce the employee footprint while outsourcing TONS of jobs to contractors who can be treated like fodder. It's insane.

Morale is in the toilet. Lack of transparency and a clear strategy have everyone wondering when they're going to get the dreaded invite sent at 6 am. It's not motivating anyone - it's encouraging them to explore options and quiet quit.

Nervous here haven’t heard anything for layoffs yet. For my team. However I’m looking elsewhere to try and stay ahead. This is so stressful for everyone.

Yes there is another lay off. I have my lay off date, April 2, 2024. Managers are putting fear in people during team calls. Moral is at an all time low. The Credit department layed off 90% of team members. My sources advised their are more to come. The new VP Amber was hired to outsource to India. CDW is not the best place to work for everyone and the rankings are skewed.

Anxiety and paranoia. Ambiguity and lack of direction. "Sell sell sell" is what we're being told but not really given a hoe other than "talk to sales.". Ya think? Of course we need to talk to sales.

Immediate and skip level managers made it very clear they didn't see this last wave coming and some even said they feel they are at as much risk as anyone else now. I know somebody in DV that said the only exec meeting after the last round was a cold 5 min all-hands. There has been no announcement of a plan or strategy. No expression of a vision. Nobody has anything to rally around.

I'd put my money on more layoffs after the earnings call on Feb 7, or maybe we get really lucky and they defer another round till mid-year. Very confused how there hasn't been any kind of announcement about re-orgs, re-structuring, shuffle teams and responsibilities. Nobody feels like there is any plan moving forward.

Appreciate your clarification but usually sentences are clear. The sentence in question is not clear if the Director/managers were talking about themselves as us, or to your group as the “us”.

“Who are the “us” you’re referring to in the post about no one is safe including us?
Sales? Project Managers? Leaders? Directors? Managers? IT? Squirrels?“

If you refer to the sentence again…
“Current vibe I’m getting from directors and managers is be scared, no one is safe including us.“

The us would refer to managers and directors because that is how sentences work. Hope this helps.

“A strong “bring the numbers or else” message is being conveyed.”

The shareholders will be getting nervous with the 9% drop in net sales in each quarter of 2023. The current economic uncertainty won’t go away in 2024 so expect further drops in overall net sales to continue.

Anyone else feel like this is long overdue?
Machiavellian leaders operating in the shadows and cultivating an environment of fear… paying very little to Frontline, coworkers, and reaping all the rewards.

I’m taking flex days the rest of the week. Going to whittle down my sick days next. I see another layoff wave coming.

Don't they take off your sick and flex days from your severance if you didn't earn them yet? That's usually how it works.

I honestly think one of the only areas we're actually effective anymore, is our elite ability to drive coworker morale even lower...

Our Director keeps cancelling meetings with our team. This has been going on for two months. It does nothing to inspire confidence.

No one on my team has said anything, nor have the layoffs been acknowledged by any of my immediate management so I'm not really able to gauge morale. Personally, I have concerns about Q1 and hope I'm wrong.

I have taken steps to mitigate any repercussions from any layoff this year and have a plan and roadmap for the remainder of the year. Good suggestion on taking the flex and/or sick days - definitely going to incorporate that into my plan.
