"And who will be first to go"...my guess is it'll be the people who feel compelled to ask this question
The oil industry is "monkey-see, monkey-do". Once one company starts announcing layoffs, the rest soon follow.

We are underperforming compared to our peers on shareholder returns.
Shell's layoffs are driven by underperforming compared to Chevron in market value based on share price.
Love the circular reference.
@jhl, CNE management couldn't risk being shown up by Shell green people. Throughout the company, that's the reason there's so few external hires, particularly from direct competitors.
@ece+1, MW sees his "legacy" as making oodles of money directing a declining Chevron. As the old saying goes, he's "crying all the way to the bank". Once you get to be CEO of a multi-billion $$$ company, you have no soul, no ethics.
MW loves his layoffs. I have to wonder what he will think about his legacy being nothing but layoffs
I wonder if CNE will chase after some of the Shell green energy redunderheads.
Not good, as it gives MW a green light (in his head) to be a fast follower of his favorite activity.
Sources say the Shell severance package will be bare bones this time around and no EOI option.
And who will be first to go - new employees hired on within the past few years, more seasoned employees, or everyone is at risk?
