Thread regarding CDW layoffs

Should we worry about more cuts?

I'm thinking it's over, but you can never be sure, I guess.

Employment is a “friends with benefits” relationship, but with less trust.

No one is stating the obvious, can Leahy and the fat cats behind her. No reason to eliminate an entire finance team to outsource it to India!! Its bullsh-t. The fact is VDW Is no longer the same, might as well rename it Sirius. Nasty business deal.

"in what world are we living" is the current reality of the culture at CDW. Cuts for all sorts of reasons. Some performance, some attitude, some people paid more than they want to pay.

CDW culture is changing and it's not a family. It's "just business". Don't keep your head low because it gives you warm fuzzies and is the ideal work condition, so it because it increases your job of getting a paycheck. People can get all up in arms about how "not right" it is but it doesn't matter. You want a fantasy about the ideal work place, vest of luck. You want to get a paycheck every two weeks, don't complain, don't stir the pot, do your best to have a positive impact and be seen as a collaborative person.

“Do the best that you can at your job. Collaborate well with others. Looks for ways to be a unifier among all the chaos. Don't speak out about negative things.

I've heard from multiple leaders the last round of cuts was mostly performance/behavior and could cite specific instances of people speaking out against management.”

Don’t speak out about negative things...ok buddy keep drinking that koolaid…unless of course you are one of these “leaders”, then this post makes complete sense. This right here is THE ROOT OF PROBLEM. The power trip that upper management is constantly high on. Leadership not allowing negative feedback is completely fu---d up and if you don’t agree with that, then you are 💯 someone in a management position.

In what world are we now living in that we can’t provide feedback about anything negative going on at any given time to upper management for fear of getting let go. If this is what is happening here at CDW and what will continue to happen, things will be getting much much worse before getting better.

That’s BS - several people I know who we laid off were excellent team members. The business was floundering in several areas and some functions needed to be eliminated to curtailed - it wasn’t their fault.

If the layoffs were “performance related” as some here claim, they would have been done before Dec 31 to avoid needing to pay out Q4 bonus and profit sharing… and they would have been terminated to avoid severance payouts.

When you look closely, you’ll see that the “backfilling” is being done with slightly different job titles for the same job duties at a lower “Global Career Framework” level with lower bonus targets. It’s a way to cut pay and mitigate the risk of age discrimination suits, as those in the higher pay levels tend to be 40+.

I've heard from multiple leaders the last round of cuts was mostly performance/behavior and could cite specific instances of people speaking out against management, making customers unhappy, not working as a team etc. additionally some cuts were announced with "we are immediately backfilling" for the role which very clearly means it's not just a costing issue.

Just be a great team member and look for ways to improve the culture and productivity around you. It doesn't perfectly protect you but it builds a healthy network to lean on if cuts do catch you at some point.

Many were laid off and awarded severance two weeks ago. They weren’t let go due to “performance,” but rather shifts in business strategy. Don’t malign folks like that!

I think layoff's in specific area's are very possible in the future. There are some area's like pre-sales and operations where we haven't seen a lot of people let go yet, but there does seem to be a lot of overlapping jobs. I would imagine in the next several months you will see some smallish (under 200) person targeted layoffs. This last round was not layoff's, it was almost all performance based (fired for performance). People who had low billable, low sales, or were not good at managing. The small handful of people that I know of who got let go were not a negative thing.

Do you see an actual articulated go-to-market strategy that makes sense? I don’t. Update your resume and network.

Every single Sirius group reports to CDW management. This constant "Sirius is the boogeyman and is to blame for all the world's ills" whining is ridiculous.

CDW was implementing a 2 day hybrid approach LONG before the acquisition. IMO, main reason we’re in twice a week is due to OEMs wanting to pull funding while we were fully remote for longer then our competitors. What’s with the hate bo--r everyone has with Sirius on this board?

Sirius needs to get in line with the way CDW works, not the other way around. Leadership has been to soft about this and having sellers in the office twice a week, minimum. Partners are frustrated with the lack of F2F engagement.

I have to laugh at the guy blaming Sirius, which seems to be a common theme among entrenched, legacy CDW folks who may never have worked anywhere else. Regardless, all you have to do is look at the top 2-3 layers of the company and realize that almost all of them are legacy CDW. Point the finger at THEM - they're the ones captaining the IT Titanic.

Yes until Sirius is satisfied with how things are running. Weed out the old CDW staff so Sirius can have 100% control.
