What’s going on within Cigna is confusing. You can feel there’s a shift and anyone who reads up on the company sees what’s happening with healthspring. Do we think they’ll be a reduction of that MA department soon? organizational change email today was oddly missing anything about MA.

All MA precert departments can barely handle their workload I can’t imagine Cigna laying off precert. People have talked about some employees taking on new responsibilities outside of MA precert in the last 30 days though so maybe they’re shifting people around…There are whispers about care Allies employees being released
“As far as some departments in MA running a skeleton crew, some are still overly bloated. I can name two that are wildly bloated.”
Which two?
If MA is “about to get slammed” - when? Tomorrow? Next month?
I would love more information about MA getting slammed. Some days, the only reason I am hanging-on is in hopes of being laid off.

If they do NOT sell the MA business, then they will need to revamp everything to try to make it profitable. They need to start planning already for AEP 2024 if they are going to have any plans to sell. And most people are miserable and leaving or have already left. Makes NO sense if they don't sell to lay off even more people. They've already gutted it enough (via John Crews the "cutter" hired a couple years ago to prepare for sale)....to the detriment of sales and enrollments.
I agree with the post below. Fall 2023 in my opinion is where MA was hit very hard. The language in that email sent by Chris “we are hoping by making all these changes at once, we can continue to focus on tasks”. At this point I think everyone has a better chance with hcsc.
“In my opinion, MA was already slammed Summer / Fall 2023. We already had many layoffs and many teams have been operating on a skeleton crew for months. People are now leaving voluntarily and we have a hiring freeze still in place for most positions. If the goal is to sell MA, it would be shooting itself in the foot having another major MA layoff. there will be nothing to sell at this point. MA teams are barely keeping it together meeting CMS metrics.
I think Cigna's goal of reducing operating expense for MA has already been met. They are looking not to invest any more money into MA unless it's absolutely necessary while talks of a sale is going on. If the sale falls through, then MA will see even more layoffs.
Meanwhile Cigna is looking into new growth areas for Commercial, Pharmacy, and health services while continuing to trim less profitable areas which equals more 2024 layoffs for mostly these areas.

“MA is about to get slammed.
If you’re in MA, try to transfer to commercial or find another employer.
Only the most experienced & necessary compliance folks are safe.“
Is there any more info on this?
I doubt they’ll gut MA if they are planning to sell it.
If they do not sell, they will be forced to bring expenses down. The easiest way to do that is with layoffs.
