Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

New layoff 1/17/24

Just got cut this AM. Looks like at least 10% of the B2C support workforce is being let go. I know of at least 7 others and only 84 in that group. So that is a good number.

Moral of the story - Stay at Oracle at your own risk!

Do the right thing and get outta Oracle now. Oracle is nothing more than a floundering ship in the middle of nowhere with no rescuer in sight.

It’s about time. cX team has delivered nothing for years. Surprised it’s taken this long to let an unproductive, failed to deliver anything team go. Ask them what their strategy is they can’t tell you. Ask them for a solution - they can’t demo or deliver. Every single product is siloed. Those at the top had every opportunity to right the course for many years and did nothing. They should be the first to be fired. How they continue to justify their jobs is beyond comprehension. RT is coasting and doesn’t care. Hates to meet customers, Hates to travel. Has never set foot in so many places oracle does business. Really just doesn’t give two hoots about what our customers need and ask for. Typical of many VPS and SVPs at oracle to focus almost exclusively on managing up and blame down. This behaviour is endemic in Oracle.

CX is mostly a dead division. Their competition is Salesforce. Whatever they try its not going to work for CX, hence this is the only way to run an org not able to make money.

CX is only their to complete the FA story, nothing else.

I do not see any visionary or extraordinary leadership either. Many of the Dev VP's are forced to follow everything from different departments with no say, no power over anything coming from top and nothing to innovate. They are simply following what is being said from top

Product Management simply copies from rivals, so nothing extra ordinary comes out from them. In fact chatGPT can write better features then most CX PMs

Those at the very top understand all this and just minting money for the titles and just cut the workforce when asked for a budget cut.

Whoever are stuck, be it Dev or QA or support should genuinely think about their careers and plan accordingly.

says a Dev who got laid off !!

Support would not be required only if the Dev were perfect in their jobs :)
“ All of the support can be laid off. Chat GPT can provide better, faster answers than the FA support. All they do is sit on Sev 3, 4. Assign P2s issues to wrong queue and when it becomes Sev1, Dev needs to handle the mess anyways.”

"Dev needs to handle the mess anyways"

Support should question the need of so many VPs in the orf.

Anyone who is willing to put up with these RIFs at Oracle is a fool for staying. There are lots of companies that would value you and your skills, and would pay you what you’re worth.

Like what companies? We cannot all work for Google. MS is questionable. Amazon is a sweat shop way worse than Oracle in terms of working conditions. Twitter is dead. Meta?

"I guess the OP wants to spread fear in hopes that some on his team will quit"

Not able to process this thought or emotion. Be prepared, look around, jump if a great opportunity presents itself - but surely, nobody is just gonna up and quit because they are afraid they are going to be dismissed, agreed?

I guess the OP wants to spread fear in hopes that some on his team will quit so, he’ll have some room in his budget to bonus himself. He needs to understand that just because things are done a certain way, US Law still applies. even to him.

That's a manager. Right here, RIGHTNOW

So quit being a doormat and do something to improve your career. And BTW, if you think that continuing to work at Oracle enhances your resume, you’re in for a rude awakening as fewer and fewer employers value Oracle skills.

Questions on the above? See the Oracle Doormat Principle

I left Oracle years ago and I’ve never regretted doing so.

Do you not think that KI is "old school"? He has to just agree with everything MS says to keep his job.

The problem from the start was MS coming in. He got rid of some leadership in some products very early that spoke up against him. That left him with people that only agreed so they would get promoted to VP. Now this is what is left.

“ Now those teams have no SRs to handle but management with inflated titles”

True that! It’s comical how there managers fight with each other to get more SRs to their resources . All in an effort to save their own a$$.

Great for all the freshly minted VPs this year. With no ICs are left in US they do not even have to show up at the office. All VPs can invite other VPs to the meaningless repetitive nonsensical meetings inorder to fill up the day calendar.

CX is a joke. Outside oracle it has become so well known for its layoff reputation. Dude we just had layoffs last month. After that during all hands everything became rosy. Now 2 weeks later it is dumping folks again on the streets who have given their entire lives working hard.

We all are well aware of KI and his politics, favoritism etc. His behavior was exposed many times and not a secret either. It's a small world. MA is a just going along the play without really understanding what is really happening in the CX support.
