Anyone hear about the rumor WW is retiring and hq will be relocated to North Carolina ?

Ehh this rumor is so far from having any merit! Corning the company is synonymous with Corning the city. Outside of NYC, this area is one of the most tourist visited area in all of NY because of CMOG (world’s largest glass museum!) and nearby Watkins Glen. Oh and don’t forget the WineGlass Marathon. Most fun small town in America and a Hallmark Christmas town, this place isn’t going anywhere.
They have a lot of tax breaks from the state of NY to do and keep business in the state. It would be significant news if they moved their HQ.
Maybe they should focus on getting out of China instead of Corning.
The current Optical HQ building in Charlotte NC (at 4200 Corning Place) is a leased building and able to hold 650 workers (anyone now how many actually work there now?). It's a pretty basic building, does not look like anything Corning Inc. would consider a Global HQ not even as nice as C-building, let alone the beauty of our HQ here in Corning. If they did move the HQ, I would assume they would add on to the business park there or find a new location and that would take a few years. My sense is the company would be sold off before they move the HQ. Sullivan Park is a significant facility that took decades to build and it would seem that you will see a large build out of another facility somewhere before they can move that. Keep your ear to the ground about any large investments they announce in other areas.
I really hope that doesn't happen. It would be so devastating to the town and the community. I love Corning (the town) and dread to think what would happen.
I don't think the WW retirement news has a merit but the HQ relocation might have (at least SL discusses about the possibility).
Is this just a made-up rumor or is there any truth in this?
Oh I want to sell my house in Corning/retire before this happens!
No more Corning in the valley in 5 years …is it that bad?
Wendell is such an egotistical douche I’m surprised the name Wendell’s Wonderland wasn’t on the top of the list of new names.
I heard this, but I heard the idea was scrapped, including WW's retirement, when senior leadership couldn't agree on whether to rename the company Concord Inc., Wilmington Inc., Durham Inc., Hickory Inc., or Winston-Salem Inc. Ah, what might have been!
