So, 1.5-3 years, hired fresh from PhD— know at least 3 with this profile who got cut down. Looks like Corning isn’t really looking for exploratory research for near future. Young hires are kind of to create a pipeline for research to technology delivery. Probably, corning can’t sustain it at this point. If the company doesn’t turn back, R&D may get another hit next quarter

Are you referring to the invite for the townhall meeting with cto? I am quite sure you won't be laid off in that meeting, unless public humiliation is your ki-k.

Does receiving the meeting invitation on Thursday mean you are selected for layoff? The email seems to be sent to everyone. But just want to make sure.

Small amount in the Wilmington NC plant. I think it was under 10 so far. People let go were from all different areas. Not sure if more are to come tomorrow.

Looks like Corning R&D is shrinking at least for a near future. I know one was laid off who was involved in multiple projects in various problem (even one with a business division). It would be close to impossible to appoint any other person to resume the modeling work that was in progress because those are complicated work, build upon segregated platforms. Corning laid off that person means those work will not be pursued for few years. Because otherwise it would be a loss for the company to redo those work or reverse-engineer to understand and emulate the model.

He said 2% across the global workforce. I f cuts are only concentrated in the valley region, the phrasing is technically correct but seems like misrepresentation.

So does that mean cuts have been completed for right now?

Starting to see slightly reduced team size in the organization chart under WW.
