Thread regarding Illumina Inc. layoffs

Who decides who to laid off?

Why are we always losing some of our most experienced and knowledgeable employees to layoffs? Even if some of the managers at Illumina aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, I find it hard to believe they'd intentionally let go of their best employees. I mean, they are the ones who make them look good, right? So who is it, if not them?

Amazingly- the manager often has no idea that one of their people is being laid off until the night before. Thus- your manager has no input. Your manager is just a figurehead until you get to director levels. Good luck with that…I know someone who introduces themselves to their manager 4 times and he still has no idea what their name is!

They also lay of the people who they don't like or who push back on anything, like toxic culture, being overworked etc.

If your VP hates you, you’re a good candidate for a RIF.
