Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

New Product Guy?

Chris mentioned in passing that there is a new product leader at the investor event this week.

About time... Lets see who drank the Kool-Aid. Anyone know?

They forgot to put his picture on the web site. Is he gone without coming in? Shall we say Sham-Pham?

In general you don't come in and change a legacy goliath, it changes you.

It's easy to say we are doing something new and exciting.

It's hard to actually do it on any scale.

He's a sales guy.

It's doubtful that he'll get in the weeds to re-engineer/fix Lumen's portfolio or get some value out of those aging assets.

He'll just feed the SLT what they want to hear, make a lot of noise and cash out.

I still remember several times we were going to be a software company.

What software did we ever make money from?

Its easy to dream up BS products.

Leaving AWS for Lemon is definitely a case of working for a title.

If he wasn't making a ton of $$ at AWS, he was about to be pushed out... Image leaving a hot AI role, when that's where all of the hot jobs are, and coming to Lemon... And not have any clue about telco's! No AI prince is going to save us!

I can't imagine leaving AWS to work at Lemon.

The top cloud provider to a legacy phone company with 99% on prem and dreams of going to the cloud.

And I've yet to see any significant AI at Lemon except for copilot and the free best testing we are doing for the MS Office suite with AI.

Little do the people using coPilot know they are training some AI engine on how to replace them someday.

New Guy is an AI guy with storage experience. On the plus side- knows the cloud players and started a failed edge services story. On the other side, no networking, no security, the bread and butter of Lumen.

Hope he knows what he's getting into... and hope KJ knows which way to tale Lumen.

Seems like Lumen is the antithesis of its name.... No Vision! Hope the new guy/gal will have the intestinal fortitude to shake up the story. If not, Lumen is just another d-mb pipe feeding the clouds.

New guy, same underfunded org. No significant innovation coming out of there, at least in 2024.

Lets see what the new "guy" will bring to the table. If he/she is going to spend most of the time on internal cloud decisions, that's the wrong person. This person is supposed to drive innovation so that customers buy more stuff.

The Oracle reference is interesting in spite of its real time in the news miss knowing that Ellison made clear circa 1996 in "Triumph of the Nerds," that "the network is the computer" before Gates stole it--again--and created the vision that remains The Level 3 Network inside of Lumen Technologies today.

Still, nobody believes the D-MB PIPE SYNDROME(DPS) theory will ever revive itself by alleviating commodity status as part of elevating itself up the stack especially where the APPS are at the top(NAAS).

Carry on in DISBELIEF since that's how superstar investors become really, really rich.

Sham's long gone. So what will the new Sham do? Put Sham to shame?

He got a VP pkg, golden parachute lite.

He wanted snowflake, others wanted Google Cloud.

He lost.

The right answer is to avoid the cloud and stay with Oracle which took over 30 years to build out.

Currently the cloud id--ts are winning.

Someone should inform Sham.
His Linkedin account still shows him at Lumen. They just removed his photo on the Lumen website about a month ago.

Who cares? Who cares? We care. When we're trying to sell the old musty stuff and get laughed out, we care. When people snidely call us Lemon, we care.

Maybe there is a new guy (or gal, lets be fair) who'll bring a cool product strategy and turn this place around. So that we can sell proudly, not hawk lemons.
