I cannot help but observe that the manner with which the staff were selected for layoffs, was completely chaotic. Selection was based on who was friends with whom, not skill set or abilities. On our team, we are losing someone who is really experienced in Excel and created an amazing and useful template for our team. This sort of weed whacker approach to cutting costs will only serve to hurt the company in the long run. Good talent will always have options so I know she will find employment with another company quickly. It will be our loss and our competitor’s gain. The Senior Director will never admit she made a stupid decision, but will simply blame everyone else. She’s so egotistical that she really believes those she spared from Layoff adore her. No, we fear her and we see through her hypocrisy. Should be interesting to watch when she is the next to get laid off. With a high school diploma and no real tangible skills, it will be interesting to see how she lands on her feet post Centene. Should be interesting to watch. I’ll get my popcorn.

Ageism at its finest. I was let go with years under my belt and I was rapidly approaching 50. They'll just turn around (like they did with my position) and fill it a year later with someone who will work for way less. I would never work for this company again,
To answer the question of how a Centene employee becomes a Director with a HS Diploma: They oversee either non clinical UM reviews or become Senior Directors in other departments like Operations.
Same- most were over 50 and more than 15 years with the company. Sprinkle in enough of everything else — how easily they discard people .
How do you become a Director with a HS diploma? Must not be CM since you basically have to be licensed to get anywhere with a good salary or youre IT.
The chief people officer is the most fakes, gossiping , inept employee, add to that the CEO who is not very smart either, listen to her, perfect combo for disaster.
They find ways to circumvent the laws against age discrimination because older workers, who have devoted year of service and worked their way up the pay scale, are the ones they want to eliminate. They lie to their younger employee by dangling the carrot of “exceeding expectations” and encouraging them to put in 50 hour work weeks promising promotions and higher pay. Problem is, the younger newer staff don’t know that they are being exploited and used. Only to be discarded once they can be replaced by a new who will accept 1/2 the pay.
Yes, that was my experience also. Every few years, Centene will go through
mass layoffs as a way to eliminate higher paid employees in order to replace them with less expensive and less experienced staff. It’s strategic and intentional. They dangle the carrot of promotions and salary increases to incentivize employees to “above and beyond” and “exceed expectations”. All the while knowing that once you have given your all and sacrificed your life for the company they will “eliminate” your position and begin the cycle again with another group of 20-somethings straight out of college. It’s brilliant. Evil - but brilliant none the less.
I have noticed that a good 95% of the people who have been laid off were with the company (HealthNet for me) for well over 15 years. I celebrated 20 years earlier this year. A woman I spoke to where 2/3 of her department was laid off, had 30 years. The other 5% were people with less seniority just to avoid a lawsuit.
