Is there such a thing called black out days? At my club mangrs say there is a black out time from 10 - 28 through 12 - 31 when you can’t put in for a couple of days off during those 2 months. Friends at other clubs have been on pto during this time so I know mngrs are lying when they say it’s company wide.

A day here and there during the holidays is no big deal however, Full weeks shouldnt be allowed, but that is up to the Management team. The Merch Manager that does all our scheduling just approves stuff all the time and doesnt bat an eye.
It's called needs of the business you don't like it get employed by a different business. Simple
That's a bunch of bull. I've got the Dec. 14th and 21st off - unpaid - for doctor's appointments. It's your manager.
It never makes sense to block out anything after Christmas. Sales drop off after the 24th. Who gives a sh-t if you're off between Xmas and New Years. That's just management being control freaks.
Thanksgiving & Christmas you can't take time off it's the busiest time of the year for retail. We were told every year the dates that were blacked out for time off, and that was mid Nov. through all of Dec. , it's retail what did you expect? Come Jan. we could take as much time as we wanted because it was dead they would send us home early.
Well Here are a couple truths for you guys. 1. During the days of Blackout Days the managers pets still got whatever time off they wanted. 2. When HO does something good for associates that managers dont like , the managers try to keep it a secret as long as possible. For instance , block scheduling. I like it but I know some of you dont. Thats not the point this time. Point is if Block scheduling had rolled out without HO requiring management to tell associates about it or had HO trusted managers to do it themselves it would have been we-ponized by management to help who they wanted to help and hurt who they wanted to hurt. Management ALWAYS looks out for management first. They may be your friend now but try questioning their authority or hint they are doing something wrong and see how long you are on the friends list. All managers tend toward being sociopathic when it comes to their authority. I have known at least a couple managers that were full on Psychopathic about their power. Trust me , you have sociopathic managers in your club too.
For as long as I can remember, no vacations after Nov. 1st. If you need a day or 2 that has been acceptable but no full weeks. But we all know, that that doesn’t always apply, it’s at the discretion of your GM if it comes down to it.
It must be different at all stores because I requested the week of thanksgiving off and got the whole week approved
Black Out days ended by HO giving up PPTO hrs & PTO hrs.
If there were Black Out days from HO than we wouldn’t be able to request those days off in the first place.
HO schedules Key Dates, not the managers.
Request your day(s) off and if they’re rejected than use your PPTO. If it’s on a Key Date than take that 1 point. Since points go away after 6 month, than we can call off and not use PPTO hrs and take a point every 45 days and we’d stay at 4 points.
All of November and December is blackout for us. I do know people have gotten a day of pto here or there if they have something important. It's up to the managers discretion. An it is very common in retail. Best of luck!
You must not have been in retail very long. Blackout dates are very common in retail companies. It happens in almost all retail companies and stores. Your friends may get a rude awakening as we get closer to the holidays. Any company can cancel PTO at any time based on "company, store, and business needs" and your friends can't do anything about it. I would suggest you look for new job.
