Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Recent CLO layoffs?

I heard there have been layoffs in Legal recently (in the last few months). Is this true? Are there rumors of more in CLO? I’m thinking about applying for a position.

I’ve heard that about Life, too. But that’s it.

Woah. He-l is empty and all the lawyers are here, sounding off.
What is a dept or CoSA at USAA that is LESS toxic, I've heard Life is not as bad?

I am in CLO and everyone in the comments hits the nail on the head. Narcissistic, gaslighting a--holes that take credit for your work, unless there is a problem, where you will be the scapegoat. My advice: stay away! Stay far far away! Even the manager’s favorites are absolutely miserable because they just have to sit and take the abuse.

Do we need all those lawyers? Maybe a CLO lay off is exactly what this company needs.

If you’ve ever worked for a big law firm, think about all the worst things that happened there. Gaslighting, narcissism, political infighting, favoritism, unequal distribution of work/resources and pay…and double it. Then add that there is no one who will support you if you complain; not HR, not Ethics, no one. Still want the job?

Do you like being lied to? Having someone else take credit for your work? Having to take the blame for something the boss’ favorite did wrong?

There are a handful of good managers in CLO, but no more than 4-5. The rest are jealous, narcissistic gaslighters who are playing corporate politics and building tiny empires of sycophants and yes men and yes women. Chances are good that you will wind up working for one of those, and not the 4-5 true leaders because there’s just so few of them. If you can get on board with doing everything to advance your boss’ career, including letting them blame you for their mistakes, take credit for your work, and do other things to derail or destroy your projects, your self esteem, and your reputation, all of which is supported by the HRBP, BTW, then by all means go ahead.

Well. Given they don't respect AML/Anti Te---r regulation, consumer protections for servicemembers, or employment law, there could be some job security in the Legal space. Go for it if the salary is decent. Any other department I'd recommend do some back door checks to make sure your manager isn't a villainous a--hole. But since he/she/they will be a lawyer you already have your answer there.

We’re not done with the layoffs, there will be another round come 1st quarter 2024 and at least 2 more after that. With Wayne at the helm and ruling with an iron fist, it’s going to be extremely rocky and stressful the next 18 months. The BOD doesn’t care about employee morale, they don’t care about your problems or lack of pay. Don’t be surprised when Wayne gets another huge raise, especially when the company suffers its 2nd consecutive loss, but they’ll blame inflation and the economy.

Stay away from Legal specifically or USAA overall?

Management at all levels cannot be trusted, bait-and-switch for remote work, and some very serious financial problems. I would stay away unless I have no alternative.
