Thread regarding Follett layoffs

When can we expect more cuts?

I know it's just a matter of time. It would be nice to know that we're safe at least for the rest of the year. If anybody knows what's in store for us, please share.

What are they thinking?
How to make the most amount of money for their rich investors!
Labor is their most controllable cost.
If the store is open 3 days a week and 5 hours a day and they make money...
Working for Follett is just a job.

I'm reading of cuts for ML, CM3s and store staff... who already seem to be cut thin for work load. Why are they not looking at RM and GVPs? Or dare I say all the new exec positions added. What are they thinking?

As a Team lead in a 2 person small store, my hours have been cut to 10 a week. I have to find something else and soon! I’ve been here about a year and a half and I can honestly say, Follett has done me no favors.

We have already seen some cuts in our store. I am sure there will be a lot more until rush for returns in December and rush for January. I anticipate they will do the same thing they did last February- cut all temps and part-timers as of the last day of rush- and go to the full time employees only. I am already planning on it and will speak to our campus contact about it so they are prepared for it as well. They need to know that their bookstores will be at 1/4 capacity for workers since they are the ones that hold the contract.

*Now on the corporate side I could see consolidation happening cut the CM3s *

Speaking as a CM3, myself and the other CM3s I know are already working 12 - 16 hour days just to try to try to stay on top of the workload we have, and even then we're all behind. I'm not sure we could possibly handle any more. That's not to say they won't still cut, though. Looking at what they've done to the stores and the MLs and how run-ragged they are, the higher-ups don't seem to have a sense of how much work each task actually takes.

I don't think any of us are ever actually 100% safe.

I was wondering the same thing. It’s been too quiet.

Most stores have nothing to cut. One or two keyholders and the rest are temps.
I doubt most stores will see too many cuts again unless they literally want the doors locked.
Now on the corporate side I could see consolidation happening cut the CM3s and CMLs and double the workload for the rest. Same for A/R, Access, A/P etc.

Keep your bag packed! Never can tell when the defication will strike the blades. Do not want to be in a Native American conveyance without a means of propulsion.
