Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

How come we're still hiring?

If layoffs are coming and we've recently had another round, then why isn't there a hiring freeze? How come we keep hiring people while at the same time, others are losing their jobs? This makes no sense. Just institute a hiring freeze and let attrition deal with the rest of it.

On the day I was told my position was being eliminated I was also encouraged to reapply for other positions that still need filled, what a joke! So I applied knowing they would say no and got the good old declination of went with better qualified candidate!!! Amazing that a TL for CM isn’t qualified enough to go back to frontline CM. And if nursing positions still need filled why are they not offering them to all of us being cut? What a nice Christmas it’s going to be now mom is jobless and unemployment takes weeks to months to approve 😩

It could also be laying off lifers who have a higher salary and replacing them with cheaper workers

Because the company has zero discipline. They manage finances by layoff and make no proactive policies to manage hiring and expenses. It’s embarrassing that the senior leadership are so incompetent from the ELT down through to band 6.

There's a hiring freeze, but can be bypassed for roles deemed 'critical'

It’s been referred to as the “fresh infusion of talent” strategy during town halls for years. Eliminate positions, rename and/or relocate some to new area, and post as new. Then they can hire that “fresh talent.” If you’re not young or have been around a long time, it will eventually be your time no matter how high of a performer you are. Can I answer why I stayed as long as I did? No. Horrible, insanely expensive “benefits” and draconian policies (including overhead 360 degree cameras watching over those in the office and the more obvious tracking of everything electronically - including keystrokes per hour, etc.) I’m glad I got out of that prison!!

Because they will lay you off and replace you with someone at a 20-50% lower salary. Think Cigna won’t do something that shady? Think again. #TheGreatReset

I don't know what's happening in your department, but we were told there's a "hiring stoppage" (they love to avoid using phrases like "hiring freeze" and "layoff" don't they?) for the next 6 months. I've seen documentation referencing open positions that are frozen until like, April/May.
