Thread regarding Anthem Inc. layoffs

No wonder Anthem is a mess

Years of cuts and attrition that cost us some of our best talent have resulted in one of the worst management in the industry. You can't expect to see a company do well if you keep promoting the wrong people with the right friends and keep getting rid of those who would have thrived in those positions.

This company talks about cuts as if they are efficient and operating on all cylinders. Reality Anthem is very inefficient with its labor distribution and has too many people in certain areas and barely anything in other areas. The "smart people" aren't leaving Anthem fast enough and so change isn't happening quickly enough. Leaving at the end of the day( especially with no notice) is best way to bring about change in company culture

Sales brings revenue

Ops doesn’t have quotas to reach and no way to determine quantitatively (objectively) one’s worth.

Upper management is so disconnected from reality

Selling is still a talent, may not be one you value but earns better than those that don’t have it.

It’s a hit or miss. I have seen very capable people get promoted and some total duds get promoted. At the end of the day also, it’s how someone is able to sell themselves. I personally have a boss who for the life of me cannot understand how he was promoted - total embarrassment to the company.

agreed, promotions are not based on skills or experience.
