Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Our low competition is much lower than what you think

I’m grade 6 with masters and 4 years at intel. My brother just out of college with BS got a job at Nvidia. His starting base pay is higher than min. I’m software AI in Oregon 121k base grade 6. My brother got 155 base plus more stocks and bonus starting as IC1. If you go to levels fyi will see number does not lying. As soon as first good opportunity comes I’m out of here. Disappointed how underestimating myself with low pay

True, Intels negotiation makes a big difference. I came in as a grade 7... 200k base, I cant remember the bonus percentage and profit share percentage, but it equated to roughly 30k all together, and 150k RSU sign on bonus + 40k cash sign on bonus to recover lost RSU's at previous company. I was on the upper end though.

Stayed for 3 years to get all the RSU's and left. I honestly felt like my skillset was wasted and I was losing my edge with a team that got excited about connecting to an azure blob storage instance that took 6 months... The company moves too slow, and there are many people that may be physically present, but mentally checked out.

30 years ago Intel stock would double with each new process node and we all made like bandits but than came PSO, BK, Bob, and Pat and we are the laughing stocks of the industry as AMD, Nvidia, TSMC, Apple, Qualcomm give us a good can of whoop a$$

Do your due diligence.

Intel is a sh-thole.

Only low tier engineers stay there because they can’t get a job at better places. OR they self rationalize their sh-t circumstances by saying things like they can’t move. Yes, you certainly can move. No one is stopping you other than your lack of ambition and lack of self worth. The other type of person that stays is the self promoting backstabbers and charlatans that slither their way into management roles.

Anyways, you can see the result of this kind of culture in the products Intel is able to put in the market. Late and underperforming is pretty par for the course.

@epv That means in the end the blame is always on employees like OP. Why can’t the management take the blame ?

@gks You can’t ignore the years of experience OP has. This is irrespective of cost.

Your brother is probably in the high cost Bay Area. U r up in lower cost Oregon where the wages are not as high. You should let your boss know how unhappy you are with your comp. If u r good they will probably take care of u. If not , jump ship.

@gwk Keep treating skilled employees as if they are lucky to even have a job. You will end up with "skilled" employees that are lucky to have a job in the industry. If that is what you want.

These days, most likely, your first official interview will be with an AI robot. Good Luck trying to get through that where AI collects your facial expressions, your timing on how fast you answer, how enthusiastic you are when answering the question, how updated are your skills, etc.
Good Luck! Looking at this past Fridays job report (Nov 3, 2023), unemployment is increases as wages begin to decrease.
