Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

Be ready

They ambush you and will not let you even look in your office or computer. Keep home copies of generic non proprietary training materials and professional contacts.

I agree they definitly took out people who where on critical work. They focused on certain projects, but it is clear they didn't have much visibility into acctual work being done.

Seems like they gave HR rough targets and let them select based off basic metrics, like pay, age, ect.

Absolut sh---y and horrendous treatment. Getting laid off via phone call.
Several crucial people getting laid off from business critical projects while other average and below average performers were not selected.
Looking at the stats they mostly picked employees in the middle ranks to avoid age discrimination lawsuits. They left the oldest ones alone and also the younger ones (making less). No regard for the role or a critical project.

I was laid off too. While it hurt not to even be able to go back to my office and get my personal belongings, we unfortunately live in a society where this is necessary. If they hadn’t done this and someone went postal, the company would have been held liable.

For those remaining, get your personal items off your computer NOW. From this last layoff, you can see that no one is safe- even if you work yourself to the bones.

They asked for a current email during the call but still sent it to an old email from when I was hired.

Where do they send the email? Did they ask you for an email when laying you off, or had you previously entered a personal email somewhere?

They spend 10 minutes going over it and then they send an email.

I didn't have a Corp phone. Don't know about that. Somebody will go get your stuff for you. Cr-ppy treatment.

Do they let you keep the corporate phone?

What about if you brought a coat or backpack? Will they at least retrieve that for you? Also, how did they give you the details of the layoff? Do they tell you all the info there, or just say they'll discuss it with you later?
