Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

I think we're safe for a while

I honestly don't think there'll be more cuts soon. It takes some time after a major round for things to calm down and for people to settle into the new normal. More disruptions before then would only be to the detriment of the company. I might be wrong, but I hope I'm not.

I’d like to know how is it right or legal that Lumen lays off (1200 supposedly I’d like to know if all that was done). My question is how can they lay people off then ask for volunteer to fill those positions “temporarily” supposedly. It was my belief that if lay of people in that position how can you put another worker there to do the same job?? I totally do not trust this company any more. They lie they do not care who they heart or lives they destroyed nor all the children in this families. They waste so much money on things that do not generate income they punish employee. PLEASE someone answer how can they legally put people on positions they just layed off? This is just not right. Where is the Union? Do they not know any of this? So far they have done nothing to stand up for us on any of this

Any one who believes they are safe at this company, are living in a fantasy world. The writing is on the wall.

"your claims of a pay raise every year, are false.... well.... unless you are maybe Dir and above.
What's your title?

By all means.... stay at Lumen, putting all your faith and trust in them. They are the best company with the best leadership. OMG I just threw up... Alot!
When they lay you off, I hope you get paid for all that PTO (FYI... We FTO now not a stock pile of PTO), and that you're able to find a new job before you lose your house, cars, and your family. My advise, get out on your terms, not theirs"

Wow, youre a bitter uninformed little person arent you. My title is Net Tech. For 27 years. And yep, i get a raise every june. Along with my 5 weeks of vacation, 8 plus personal days and 8 paid sick days. Saying PTO was easier than typing all that out the first time. But you couldnt figure that out. Guess what? I also have a fat pension and a fat 401k. Along with many others in my job title. They can lay me off now...who cares. And yes, they have to pay me for all my unused "PTO". No house or car payments. I guess thats a benefit of working for a living instead of bi--hing for a living. You should try it.

"The rest of us non-union schmucks put up with their no raise shenanigans for any number of reasons, but probably #1 was because we had the STI bonus plan."

Ah...so do they pay out an STI next year? I think they have to. Morale is already in the toilet. If they cut it out, Kate wont have any ammunition left to motivate her Lumen humans to "win like he-l".

I wouldn't give that much credit to the union bargaining team. They have allowed us to fall 15-30% behind AT&T & Verizon by taking annual lump bonuses of $800 versus a small raise that compounded. The gap would have been much less at this point with 1-2% raises during the lean years. The company won in both cases by not giving you raises since Storey & out negotiating the bargaining team.

well see there ya go, so union employees have negotiated contracts that have raises built in. The rest of us non-union schmucks put up with their no raise shenanigans for any number of reasons, but probably #1 was because we had the STI bonus plan. Which was rarely ever paid out at 100%, but was still a goog chunk of change.

"The company has been on a yearly pay raise freeze since Jeff Storey and L3 management took over a few years ago. "

Why would people have stayed during that period in such a strong job market? Other than the bargained for groups, it's amazing how the company was able to retain anyone then

The company has been on a yearly pay raise freeze since Jeff Storey and L3 management took over a few years ago. So his claim of getting a raise every June is sketchy.

I don't think the Level 3 Techs are union. They get paid less than the union techs and somehow give the impression they are better.

A raise every June? You must be union, or full O cr-p.

Couple people have stated in their layoff letters that there would be another round. I’m sure it didn’t, but, did it state which department(s) would be next? It’d be great if someone would black out their name and cut paste their letter showing additional layoffs coming. This is just nuts. Are they just trying to get rid of Centurylink? Or all consumers and small businesses in Centurylink and Quantum Fiber? The way they are dealing with this is horrible! If they were in our shoes and not being told anything especially at the holidays they would be pisssssseeeedddd!!!!!!! I am so fed up with these games and what seems to be good old boys, or popularity, club. If I’m wrong please I’d like to know. I have never worked for a company this unprofessional. It is not only employees they’re hurting but they are hurting the customers which are needed and without them no one has a job. I have neighbors and family with internet with us and everyone one cancelled their account and went to different provider. Sad part is they came to me I never said a word about the issues with company. Kate and all higher ups just are not smart enough to know “Our Customers Know How To read”. And they are reading how horrible our leadership is and want nothing to do with a company who lacks integrity or the TRANSPARENCY Kate repeats over and over. Kate put your money where your mouth is!!!!!! You have lost all trust as you say one thing yet your actions are volumes loader!!!! I see why she needed a break for mental health regrouping. You lie and get caught. Little secret when you are able to look in the mirror each day and do not feel guilty or a fake then you sleep better and any in the right headspace. Seriously you have learned nothing from past mistakes!!!! If I did not have small kids and didn’t need this job…. I will leave it there.

"Sooooo.... if anyone believes there will be another layoff and....
if they are at a place where they don't need to find another job (aka ready to retire or a millionaire), or are confident enough (stupid) that they will immediately going to find another job
Then by all means continue to work at a place where you'll not get another pay raise.

But if you believe there will be another layoff, and you can't afford to lose your job, your paycheck, or the hit to your resume, why would you stay?"

They’ve been declining since 2018, used to be fun to work there, but once Storey took over not so fun. Been out almost a year(left on own terms), one day Lumen will be right sized and fun to work at again, but now isnt the time. Good luck to you all, i saw way too many rifs their starting in 2018, definitely doesnt sound like its over yet!

The writing has been on the wall for years now. 18 quarters in a row of declining revenues. Never ending software problems. Missed commitments. Low pay at the bottom and ridiculous golden parachutes at the top. Kate came in and brought her team along firing the old team. Now Kate's team is gone and Kate may be gone soon. Pieces of the company are being sold. Bankruptcy appears to be in the future. Perhaps we will all be able to read the autopsy reports in the not too distant future.

There's another round of layoffs.
Most likely announced next week.
Management took a hit this week. Technicians are next week.

If you work at the company would would see the frivolous spending; so yah there will unfortunately be more layoffs due to all the money burnt on the mandatory book clubs that cost an arm and leg to pay the author, facilitate the learning sessions/ material, upper management book retreats. Amount other things. Look around you and you will see the huge amounts of money being spend unnecessarily on things that are for employee experience (Taylor Swift Concert tickets, etc.) don’t don’t provide any actual value to the business just burning cash… It is sad.

I'm still upset at Lumen spending $2 million dollars in 2022 buying back the stock at $6.07 a share.

Probably from an employment perspective and yet to see next year. This round felt aimed at just reducing payroll cost, the next one may be targeted by org. function or performance.

From a workload and daily frustration standpoint, many people holding the knowledge, the relationships or the process of something were caught in the wave and were already the last remaining.

Lumen needs to reduce costs until its cash flow neutral. 4% is not going to do it. The SLT should have gone deeper once, and then avoid more rounds in the near-term. They are too timid now, and will pay the price by next summer.

This all should have started around $10, $7, $5, $3. Why would they stop now? These vp's and directors taking over new people & groups will make changes. The company waited way too long & could have prevented what's happened or will happen. Chapter 11 will happen, there's no other solution for the debt.
