Thread regarding Blue Shield of Californa layoffs

Another round of layoffs at BSC, Nov 2023

Looks like a larger round of layoffs at BSC in Nov. 2023. It will hit both IT and Operations. Layoffs were expected in Operations, mainly due to the Medicare Redetermination and expected reduction in membership - and will/has affected all insurers with the Medicare line of business, not just BSC. The IT layoffs are partially affected by the high cost of project tails (recurring project operational costs after implementation). While tails are forecasted and approved, those costs have escalated. The have been recent efforts to reduce tails, but I'm guessing it couldn't be significantly reduced - resulting in layoffs.

BTW, there was a smaller layoff within the last month or so. This would be the 2nd but larger layoff in a short period time. Add to the 370+ laid off in Oct 2022 (effective Feb 2023) and it's a company that is having a hard time controlling its costs.

Used to work for them. I warned co workers that this company is not "family" as they like to portray themselves.
I was one of the long term employees, who was forced out, because I refused the JAB. I was a remote worker, so there was no need to get vaccinated. Blue Shield forced all employees to get the Jab and then threatened those of us who refused, with termination.

Blue Shield has been trying to offload office space through subleasing buildings and floors since it's a ghost town in the offices. There's never been a real effort to get folks back in office
