Thread regarding F5 Networks Inc. layoffs

More cuts tomorrow?

Will there be more cuts tomorrow? How worried should I be? I can't stop stressing over this.

Going to lay low and float by here in Mass office and pretend to do work like everyone else here. We just make daily complaints and delay our tasks. There’s no point in even caring if they try to shut us down again. Plus they would need to setup a WARN here which is complicated for HR. I’ll just wait on the severance like everyone here. Quiet quitting - still young and can just find something else. Pretty sure there aren’t any more layoffs for this year.

Really tough and depressing when betrayed by Prophet FLD

Hyderabad Center had been hiring several writers in the last month. When asked, their management said lots of new projects would be coming in. Did not understand what that meant back then. In the recent layoff, they let go of all US writers (F5OS, Next, and more) to outsource doc projects to this cheap labor country.

FLD and Kara just confirmed that 2024 would remain uncertain, and they can't predict further reductions of roles and "alignments". On top of this, FLD said that engineers are seen as the operational cost, and the company would use "AI" to "reduce these costs".
If software or hardware engineers are seen purely as an operational cost for the software and hardware company, it speaks volumes!

"Why quit when I got a nice severance coming? I am not stressed in my dept, nor have I ever really been. I will go down with the ship and collect a bunch of money and find a new job."

Exactly! Build alternative streams of revenue on the side. See F5 as a part-time engagement and start mining YOUR OWN Business!

Why quit when I got a nice severance coming? I am not stressed in my dept, nor have I ever really been. I will go down with the ship and collect a bunch of money and find a new job. I don't see the point of quitting unless you are newbie, and/or hate your job or are too stressed thinking about being laid off.. If that is your situation, then yes, go quiet quit or whatever you need to do.

We are still selling stuff, and have HUGE customers that are massively invested in our product, so we aint going nowhere. Yes we make shrink, and lose people but that is how every business in the world works, especailly soulless corporations with stocks.

FLD has not increased profit or size of the company much, so they need new direction or new exec mgmt, which we have shedded already.

Watch: https://youtu.be/KTktSl5h7I0?si=SZXiYYdSRo5NISU5 and prepare to leave; start looking for a new job. Don't believe what "management" says. They PRIMARY and ONLY objective is to keep share price not falling down.

The biggest disappointment is that the leadership was lying to the ppl for about a month, if not more. Since all these talks about re-org popped out I was a bit stressed because of that. But when the new CEO said that it’s not a RiF in any meaning and that no one would lose the job - I kinda calmed down.
And unexpectedly, out of the blue, my laptop is being locked in the middle of the work process, I’m losing access to all the resources and getting an email on my Gmail that I’m no longer employed. At first I thought that it’s some kind of mistake, but it wasn’t. I just missed the meeting when the leadership announced another round of layoffs.
They at least could warn us that the weather is not as sunny as it looks…

any details on what that new direction is? Guessing at best the new direction is abstract....

First company that I was RIFd from gave us the explanation that are skill set didn't match the future direction of the company.

3 weeks later I landed a job at a small company. Turns out the smaller company was designing and manufacturing two products that the company I got RIFd from adnd going to be selling them under their name as this was the new direction that they were going to take.

My first day I didn't know anything of the product. 5 weeks later with a lot of late hours I knew the product inside and out.

Yeah - my immediate "skill set" didn't match the future direction of the company, but my mindeset of learning did.

Kara doesn't know what she is doing. She needs to retain those with the skill of mindset over knowing Python or Go or whatever the fad language is.

"no more layoffs as for now"....I've heard that before...

"When pressed on it in a town hall, the GM gave a long drawn out explanation on the definition of a RIF and said that laying off 120 people didn't fulfil that definition. Required quite the feat of mental gymnastics."

This "mental gymnastics" about the definition of RiF caught my attention too. The guy lost all respect in my eyes. Who cares about naming conventions when 120 people lost their jobs? Probably, the "RiF" looks not so good in the press.

GM of NGINX had said that the unit's re-org will NOT be a RIF. Then Kara and the GM went on to loudly proclaim that laying off 120 people was not a RIF. When pressed on it in a town hall, the GM gave a long drawn out explanation on the definition of a RIF and said that laying off 120 people didn't fulfil that definition. Required quite the feat of mental gymnastics.

Just remember that whenever they declare that there will be no layoffs.

As they answered: "no more layoffs as for now". But being realistic and seeing clueless executives expect more "business adjustments" next year.

It's interesting to see execs presenting slides showing substantial growth, and at the same time, they cut bonuses and no salary increases. Given current inflation, they ask people to work for around 20-30% less. Good luck!

There are no layoffs outside of the product org.

The so-called consultation process is about to start in Europe. There are all-hands meetings scheduled for Thursday. Those lucky ones will know if they are fired probably over the next few days. So, the layoff is still going on. Prepare your resumes.

We heard rumblings earlier today in PE meetings that the Services org will be next. Hold on to your hats

The change happened in the product org and already said those notifications were complete. Not sure that anything is happening in the rest of the company.
