So, the open job reqs throughout the time of covid were marked clearly as Remote, but now those same people are being told they are required to come in. How are you going to hire, likely 500+ people, as Remote and then turn around and say you're required to come in, that's pretty dirty

I was one of those caught up in this. I negotiated a role to be remote after receiving a verbal offer for an in-person role. So a custom REQ was spun up specifically for me to accommodate this remote exception request. I have the original req that I applied to, and also the new req that I negotiated specifying the role as remote. I also have emails with the recruiter tying all of it together. The official offer letter was sent shortly after I completed the application for the new remote req. However, I was never labeled as remote in Workday and have been receiving pressure and got the dreaded email. I brought all the evidence of this to my people leader, and they're trying to sort it out with HR.
Exactly, right. Everyone who quits is one less they have to give severance to.
Before Covid, had a Senior DM who traveled the US and World working remotely. They never had permission to do so, but they were important enough that no one said anything to them either.
Response to the last post that is not true. There are people that got permission to move during the pandemic and received approval but managers are being asked to reevaluate that especially if the majority of the team is in a centralized hub location.
I know people who moved from an office location to very remote areas (no C1 office nearby) during Covid (with permission) and there is no chance that they will force them to move back (of course these are people who if they would quit, would cripple their business unit).
Before you follow the last poster sur approach… pull and check the offer letter you signed. There is explicit remote exception language and a separate disclosure you had to sign (Yes, many roles were remote eligible) If you don’t have that language in the letter while you may have been working remote (everyone was) you were not hired remote and have been getting paid based on the area you signed the letter for as your “location “
If you are caught up in this, you can sue and easily win some money. They are trying to get employees to quit, so they don’t have to pay severance, but severance standards are calculated by corporations already based on the best cost outcome of a suit or unemployment costs to them. Don’t ever quite a job. There literally is no point, fired you get unemployment or huge severance check, quit, get nothing.
Because they want to fire people.
