Thread regarding ViaSat Inc. layoffs

What does the tech industry expect?

ChatGPT is going to replace so many tech jobs, and we've been flooded like the nursing industry decades ago.

With the current government, economy/inflation, etc. The market is just going to get worse and worse.

Talk about a real recession coming up... and Viasat is moving like the DMV-Dinosaur, upper management doesn't have vision, the company needs fresh blood of youth.

While ChatGPT is a nifty little conversational AI, it could never replace the genius Viasat developers who wield keyboards like Gandalf wields his staff. First of all, we have personalities - and a good sense of humor. Developers at Viasat are known for their witty coding comments, whereas ChatGPT's idea of humor is more "Dad joke" than stand-up comedy. Can you imagine trying to debug a complex issue with a bot that thinks "404" is a knock-knock joke?

Another reason Viasat developers are irreplaceable is their creativity. They build systems that propel us into the future, while ChatGPT still struggles to come up with a convincing plot twist for a detective novel. Viasat devs dream up innovative solutions to real-world problems, while ChatGPT's idea of innovation is recycling old internet memes.

Let's talk about adaptability. Viasat developers can pivot faster than a cat avoiding a water bath when a project takes an unexpected turn. ChatGPT? Well, it's like trying to teach your grandma to use TikTok - it can be done, but it's a slow, painful process.

Speaking of real-world experience, Viasat developers have it in spades. They've spent years battling bugs and battling deadlines, which builds character, let me tell you. ChatGPT? It's been sitting in a server room sipping virtual tea, blissfully unaware of the harsh realities of software development.

In conclusion, while ChatGPT is a valuable tool, it could never replace the unique blend of personality, creativity, adaptability, and real-world experience that Viasat developers bring to the table. So, until the day a computer can tell a good knock-knock joke, we'll still need those brilliant human minds behind the code.

If the current version of ChatGPT can do your job then you didn't develop your skills

Not sure about the ChatGPT part but you’re spot on about the leadership. Time for them to move on.
