I have been mulling over the weekend what to do. Got informed last week that my role is eliminated. I have strong reason to suspect that my manager has targeted me. Is associate relations any help at all?

No. They will not help. Take the severance . They will not fight your claim for unemployment. Accept the severance, and move on. F them, and don't look back. Place is the most toxic I have seen. Better days ahead.
place is a cesspool all around
shut it down
blame Board of Directors, CEO, and head of HR
No one would do anything. My manager wrote lies about my work performance and put me on PIP. I knew they'd kick me out so I started interviewing, got 3 job offers and resigned a week before PIP end date. They did not accept my resignation, and dragged it to the PIP end date and marked my PIP as fail so as to terminate me. They dealt with it in a really sh---y manner. The severance was good though. So no need to fight, just take the money and apply elsewhere. They are anyway cutting so many jobs, it's not your fault. Trust me, all that played an emotional havoc on me, but after reading about so many people, I've realized they just want to cut jobs.
Curious what line of business did your elimination occur in and what job family?
OP here. To the person who asked about PIP. It is not PIP but I know they pay your benefits during that period. Thanks everyone for all the helpful answers.
By going to HR you're talking directly to the people whose job it is to fire you. HR is not there to help anyone period. Don't be foolish.
Couldn't hurt. Fu-k the haters on this thread.
Have to agree with everyone else. AR is worthless and protects the company. Thanks the money and don’t look back.
P.S. In 6 months, they will decide they need your position/role again and promote one of their favorites into it… it’s all a cruel game over there
Print off your prior years reviews, any 360 feedback reviews you have received, any direct management praise. Also, print out your last paystubs and would recommend printing our your job description from when you were hired for your most current role amongst any additional responsibilities you acquired since then. This way if they fight you on unemployment you have documentation to back it up. Documentation is everything when you are being screwed over.
Do they pay your medical while you are in the 60 day PIP?
I agree with the others. AR is worthless and complicit. Rejoice. You got the equivalent of a Golden Ticket! Don't look back. A year from now you will be happy you left.
Do not go to HR period. Get your severance and file for unemployment after your last date of work. They did you a favor so please enjoy your time off and peace of mind.
Role eliminations are one of the “cleaner” ways of getting a person/team out. Someone else at a different level will be expected to do the work unless the job truly is no longer needed/eliminated. De-scoping work for someone is faster than performance management for getting them out and avoids a lot of paperwork and psychological games. AR will be of no help I’m sorry to say as this is being driven by “the business”. The business case for the elimination has already been made, justified, and approved and is likely air tight (they are experts at drafting how these need to be worded).
They won’t post the role again for at least 6 to 8 months if at all because they know how to avoid scrutiny over it being a punitive move and stay above the radar or any wrongful termination claims that can emerge well afterwards.
That’s cute. Do you still believe in the tooth fairy as well? I’m squeezing this company for all it’s worth then I’m out. I need to hit that 5 year mark for resume purposes. They’ve been underpaying below industry averages on positions it seems for the longest time.
Your options:
A. Get another job and move on
B. Give up on life and become homeless
- Become born again into a rich family
- Message Rich directly to see if he will adopt you as one of his adrenochrome minions
No wonder, their job is to protect the company and management.
AR is 100% useless and just as complicit as leadership is. My biggest mistake was thinking I could go to AR when I was being bullied and harrassed by my team and manager. Don’t think for one minute that they’ll do anything to help you. You’re on your own
