$867K Fine for 911 Violations
The FCC issued a Notice of Apparent Liability to Lumen Technologies, Inc. (“Lumen”) last week for failing to reasonably design and operate its network to transmit all 911 calls and to notify Public Safety Answering Points (“PSAPs”) as soon as possible for two outages that occurred in February 2022. On February 17, 2022, Lumen experienced an outage affecting 911 calls in South Dakota that lasted for almost five hours. Five days later, Lumen experienced another 911 outage in North Dakota that disrupted service for more than seven hours. Due to the flaws in its PSAP notification system, Lumen only notified two of eleven affected PSAPs in a timely manner. Accordingly, the Commission proposed a penalty of $867,000 against Lumen.

How can the SLT be so oblivious to the overall poor condition of the network?

Not surprising. There's over 150k critical alarms in RFM. They just allow the system to filter and not build tickets as did NMA. Lots of redundancy in our own infrastructure is down all over the place. Lumen "why be proactive maintaining it, when you can be reactive with everything out of service "

Ziply... hah! The same losers who mismanaged our network going back to Qwest days are running the ship there. When the free money runs out, they won't know what to do.

I'm seeing the writing on the wall come to fruition. Far fewer tickets for TDM/copper based internet lines and fewer calls in spite of our management feeding us propaganda that copper will be around for years to come, yeah right. From the fact that Quantum Fiber has increased activity exponentially in my area to hearing customers who call us talk about upgrading to fiber(many already have) there's no denying it, copper has started the death spiral.

Plenty of Investment groups will buy the copper plant.
They'll turn it around and convert to Fttp.
Government will assist with any new startup.
Ziply and Brightspeed are perfect examples.

They can try to sell the copper plant but there's nobody stupid enough to buy it. I doubt they could even give it away.

That’s why they are selling the ILEC business, get rid of all the 911 business and copper infrastructure that’s has been upgraded in 20 years.

Lumen will recoup the loss by more layoffs.
Say bye bye to about 100 technicians.
Another 50 for good measures.
