Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Former employee who reapplied and had interview

Former registered nurse who actually enjoyed working for the company a few years back under the previous leadership. Interviewed for a CM position last week and knew I was doomed the moment I saw my interviewer on the Zoom call. Let's just say Lizzo ended up not hiring this highly experienced RN. If you are an older white guy, I would probably not waste your time. Neidorff is gone and you are definitely the wrong demo now.

The PhD nurse probably dodged a bullet there. One disgruntled wannabe Florence Nightingale gets a legitimate C and she files a s-xual harassment charge to retaliate. Next thing you know, my dude gets fired, canceled, and ends up making waffles at Waffle House at 4am for $12 an hour. He would be better off trying to parlay that PhD into a research position in the private sector.

Centene was definitely a good old boys' club in the past. The level of a-s-kissing among St. Louis employees was unbelievable. It's still there to an extent, but most of those leaders have since left. The culture still su-ks. There are literally metrics on diversity. They really should try to get the best candidate for the job to meet the business needs.

You think it’s bad at companies like this one? Try academia. I have a male friend with a PhD in nursing from a top R1 university who cannot find a tenure track position (and there are plenty in nursing as opposed to other academic disciplines). The reason given? Almost always is that they seek more diverse candidates than him. Problem is, nursing is still around 75% female. That would make him the “diverse” candidate. I guess it’s the wrong kind of diversity though.
