Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Layoffs for indigenous and Métis

Did you notice that the previous post about a First Nation employee who was laid off has been deleted.

It is true that our C E O Freddy K. doesn’t respect any truth and reconciliation agreement for indigenous people and Métis. I still remember Freddy crying during the truth and reconciliation townhall. What a fake guy … and he laid off indigenous and Métis

Everyone is fair game when it comes to layoffs... Realistically why should any one be saved because of their race or gender. No one should be entitled....

To be honest I’m disappointed in the comments for the disregard for indigenous and Métis people protection and given opportunities. I understand people stepping up and saying it’s performance and treat everyone as equal fair and square but that’s BS, because there were layoffs completely unrelated to performance, people that put their heart and soul into their jobs for the company in jobs that do matter for the operation of the plant and still got laid off. The jobs can still be protected. People who are valuable and important to the organization. Syncrude used to mandate a certain % of work force is to be indigenous and Métis, it was targeted at around 9%. The average baseline opportunity for indigenous and Métis peoples beginnings aren’t exactly equal playing fields, and these lands were overtaken. Suncor clearly doesn’t give a f—k who you are. As they keep slashing layers and roles the company breaks down into a skeleton of a company, so do these policies for diversification and inclusion. It su-ks to see Syncrude slowly become Suncor. It was once such a great company to work for.

The layoffs are based on positions created by suncor. Nothing related to performance.

I see many women being laid off. company doesn’t support gender diversity either.

Everyone up here making top dollars should respect the enormous sacrifice that was made to these peoples lands for oil profits and of course all of these great high paying jobs. This land has been sacrificed, the rivers have become contaminated that flow north. It’s not just performance, managers have also made mistakes laying off the wrong people.

People should be evaluated based on performance. End of story. We can have reconciliation and fair, equitable systems at the same time
