Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

Allstate is a follower, not a leader

If other companies return to the office, so will Allstate. They can’t think of anything inventive or interesting to bring this ship upright. We will be going back to the office soon as a last ditch effort to try to get to profitability. As usual, too late Allstate. You better just continue to outsource and lay off every employee over 50. The time has come to really clean house and start over if you want to grow this withering vine.

Well said, @qkt+1pg2q3G7.

I can say that I am more productive working remote.....when I decide to be. The 2 hour lunches and the occasional PS5 afternoon sessions especially on Mondays and Fridays tend to cut a bit into that though.

Pls share data that shows remote are more efficient. One can’t just pull BS from the sky and share as fact.

I call BS on the remote excuse. Remote employees are more efficient than on site employees. It is poor management that enables slackers.

If it happens, it will be with a new CEO and not Tom. There is a pattern in corporate America emerging where corporations make the change from remote to hybrid when executive leadership changes.

From an outside in perspective, this company's performance has been poor for an extended period of time, efficiencies expected haven't materialized in terms of improvement in productivity unit cost when using planned staffing and not on the book staffing. Perhaps most important, as attractive as remote positions are to applicants and have expand the talent pool to all geographies, the retention, tenure and development of talent that ascends thru the organization likely tells a different story.

Without question some roles can and should be remote, but the shot clock on any debate whether all roles vs. a judicious portion of roles is likely to expire and companies, especially under performing companies with struggling cultures will be forced to make a business decision around the benefits of being fully remote and whether they outweigh the challenges.

Allstate's biggest challenge isn't being remote, that needs to be clear, but not sure anyone can say it hasn't contributed and if so, to what degree. However, at this time the company is all in on remote and promoting it as difference maker, so they must believe it is a performance enhancer and that's all that matter...for now.

No way. They sold Northbrook home office. That housed several thousand employees. No place for those people to go but work from home.

Not sure about this, as they are actively hiring on people as fully remote. But who really knows.

@vys+1pimClni I get much more done at home than sitting in a cube while I’m subjected to your mind numbing small talk about your children/sports team/favorite tv show from your coffee breath. Sitting in traffic for 1-2 hours ruins my morale. The “culture” of water cooler talks and meetings that should have been an email does nothing for me. Don’t ruin the one good thing about this dump which is working from home, only reason I still work here

Fact: Very few physical office locations remain that are proximate to most employees. This will prove to have been an irrational strategic move (like so many) in the midst of Covid. An opportunity to reduce expense ratio and market company as a progressive workplace with great leadership and technology. A prior post noted that Wilson likes remote, because if you can work from anywhere, then India is just fine. Remote productivity, engagement, culture, morale, and quality are not comparable to in-office. It was very short-sighted to let so many leases expire.
