Thread regarding ResMed Inc. layoffs

This makes no sense

Why lay off people with more experience? Shouldn't it be "last one in, first one out" or something like that? We've lost team members who've been here for over a decade and somebody who joined less than a year ago is still here. I don't understand the logic behind this. Don't they realize we've just lost invaluable institutional knowledge with these people?

Yup. It was probably salary-related which should be illegal in my opinion. Makes me sick to see who they laid off and how much value they're losing because of it. I think it's a big mistake and they're going to pay for it down the road. I'm curious how many (if any) Marketing people they laid off. IMO, they're the slowest, most bloated team of all and they seem to just keep growing that team when it doesn't make sense.

Looking at my position (that got layoff), they probably just look at title and salary to decide who got cut. Doesn't matter how much of your knowledge/contribution. Even my manager and his manager didn't know about this. They rude enough to just send him a team message that they laid me off, no explaination.

Those that have been there for decades have been collecting equity, higher salaries, etc. They let the newbies stay because they're probably paid a lot less...get more work out of them at a lower salary.

I'm in the same boat! I was let go because I was probably costing them more! Experience doesn't mean cr-p to them, it was all about who is a cheaper resource and who we like more!
