Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

My job is available??

Why did a headhunter just call me for a contract to hire job at Centene? Omg what foolishness. I get laid off and now Centene is hiring contractors to do exact same job!

I have a friend in IT and he told me he does the new hire call weekly. They apparently have 4 calls on Mondays to help new hires. He told me for almost a few months they were all contractors, but now they are starting to see full time employees also. Centene never stopped hiring or even having people travel. Same friend told be that a bunch of IT managers are flying for a week to St Louis in Nov just to have meetings (guess zoom is not good enough), and that his new director is also flying around to different places.

Hey, if they hire you as a contractor you can keep your severance and continue to be paid. I'm near retirement so contracting is attractive to me as I don't plan to work but another 2-3 yrs at max.

Train by example - they can watch you work. If they pick it up, great. If they don’t, great. I’ve watch team members become teachers and take it upon themselves to embark all knowledge and wisdom … then end up posting on this board.

That is olden times mentality. World is not like it used to be. Companies see you as a simple number with a price associated to it. The knowledge you have acquired is seen as a company asset, not yours. If they want you to embark “your” knowledge then pay you for it. Come back as a high priced consultant whose job is to train. Don’t give it away for pennies. They want the cake and eat it too.

It's also a lot easier to cut contractors loose than an FTE. So win, win for this life su-king company.

Its like being handed a shovel and expected to dig your own grave. Nothing like adding insult to injury. Most if not all of those contracted employees are from off shore too - mainly India.

Our department was impacted by the last layoff. The following Monday, multiple contract employees started training. No way to think they aren’t being trained to replace me and the other remaining FTE’s in the very near future. We don’t have the volume of work to need anyone else. So, basically they are asking us to train our replacements.

Way back in the day that's the game we played, in 2013 quit centene and come back through a temp agency making more money. No benefits but the pay was about 33% more. They could have cared less that I had quit bc they weren't paying for my benefits. I don't get it. I was making about a third more of pay and then the temp agency was also getting a cut so how could that have been cost effective?????

That is really cr-ppy. I am so sorry.

Agree with the other person, I am sure it's about the cost of benefits.

That's messed up. I suppose it is because a FTE costs the company a lot more than just salary (I.e. vacation, sick pay, benefits, taxes, etc.). Contract employees are self-employed, so they have to figure all that out themselves.
