Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

If you choose to leave instead of moving….

don’t depend on any Unemployment. I can’t say you will get it or you will not…All I can say I filed when I was in the RIF wave in August and was denied due to the lump sum severance payment. It is unclear if I can refile next year when the calculated advanced payments run out.

PA is one of very few that will pay. My state considers me getting a severance and unemployment “double dipping”.

Yes I too was able to collect UC and severance in 2011 in PA. Company moved operations out of state and I was unable to move. I thought they changed the law in 12/13 but maybe not.

If the conditions of your employment change in such a way that you can no longer work it you can collect. That includes moving, shift change, decreased wages etc. Anything the employer does that would cause you to not be able to continue to work.

I was laid off from a different organization in 2015 and collected both (PA) unemployment as well as my severance.

We are not choosing. If a company relocates and you are not able to move, like say, to TEXAS, you are leaving your job through no fault of your own. We would still be working if not for Crown closing the offices here. So, I believe you can and should get unemployment.

I think it varies by state, but yes. I assume that if we "choose" to leave our job we will have a very hard time getting unemployment benefits.
Thanks for adding that to the list of things to think about!
