Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Suncor Greed

I came to the realization that I am guilty of greed. I took the position with Suncor a couple years ago for the promise of RSUs. Pay and benefits were low. Suncor did not recognize experience when it came to vacation. Then came Kruger. Those of us working in Energy Transition were a target. In hindsight I should have declined the offer. Let this be a lesson to future employees … do not bank on promises years into the future with Suncor.

I also believed their lies. Got hired in a downturn when I was a contractor elsewhere. They really sc--w you on vacation when they can, people hired after me with less experience started with more vacation due to different hiring matrix.

My introduction to suncor was when we were in a staff meeting and brought up what we were told for our hiring. General manager stated "Is it in your offer letter? Then I guess it didn't happen." Our two supervisors who hired us quit within a month of that as they didn't know they were lying for the company.

Sadly I am still with the company years later being picky in applications elsewhere. I do steer anyone I know away from coming over though and ask them if they are hiring instead.

I see Suncor has career postings for a couple of cybersecurity experts. With all what has been happening in the past few months, only desperate individuals would consider a staff position with this loser organization.

I have made those offers to plenty of folks - low salary with the promise of competitive pay in 3 years. It makes it hard to hire good people, and most don't make it to 3 years, either they find something better or (lately) the company decides they are disposable. I hope these last few months are a wake up call for those who are left, and for prospective employees.

They lie about expected bonuses too. Don’t trust any company on variable comp
