I could have written your post but from the Sprint to TMobile view. For several years, my motivation was healthcare and misc expenses, delaying as long as I could pulling the lever on MY retirement funds. The (very poor) managers at both companies, who thought they were smarter, powerful? Lol, yeah ok.

The last three years, post merger? My strategy was bank all the money I could. The severance package was like an added year plus bonus. I don't mind any judgement, but before going there - look at how all this turned out. Who was fooling who? I did to T what they were always going to do to me.

I am 58 too. Exceeded all my goals for being FREE. Kids out of college, house paid off. Catching up on traveling. Peace!

I made it my goal to work their until they paid me to go away. If I did not get laid off with a severance package I would work until 70. I refused the jab, got an exemption - so that put me at the top of the hit list - (they immediately reduced my responsibilities and gave me my first bad review - LOL). But they were afraid to fire me without a package. They retired me at 58. Now I fish a lot. I am glad I never believed the SLT when they told me they loved me. Life is good.”

The truth is, TMO had quiet layoffs for well over 10 years. I understood it prior to the AT&T merger because we were doing so poorly. Several others made no sense. Now after the sprint merge they completely lost their identity especially with legacy SLT at the helm. Employees feel betrayed as they should. Congratulations on identifying this, planning ahead and early retirement. Usually this just applies to the executive level. It’s hard to pull off as an IC.

This has been going on for quite a while to thousands of people. Why did you think you were immune? Corporations do not care about their workers. We are disposable Human Resources.
