Someone posted this - “ In sports, fixed salaries are often converted into signing bonuses as the accounting is different. Seagate giving out RSU instead of restoring the salary cuts has similar accounting effects. In fact, I think Seagate should expand this approach and include all employees (non-exempts as well) since we are ONE SEAGATE. We all should do our part to help the finances.”

Have been gone since 2009 and I never looked back. I enjoyed my job quite a bit early in my career but at the end I knew that it would be a dead end for me to stay working at Seagate. I still had another 15 years in my career and I did not want to be depressed for that length of time. So please develop plan to get out or simply get out and try to succeed other ways. The salary is a dr-g that you can replace.

RSUs that aren't vested disappear when you get RIF'ed. It would literally mean nothing to the company to give them out other than administrative overhead. I got RSUs four years before I got RIF'ed. Three years were vested and year 4 would have vested in September 2019 and my last day after "knowledge transfer" time was August 1.

They did it b/c there were no focal increases in IT that year so they gave "deferred compensation." Yes, it means they think you're above average, but it won't stop them from letting you go if your division gets hit hard.

seagate used to be a great company to work for. around 2017 it went to $$t. senior management (not leadership as it was nonexistent. you manage things ,you lead people) went woke and played to $. i could name names and a couple are still there but most got taken out even though they drank the corporate kool-aid bs. I'm somebody that didn't sell out, knows the unethical, illegal ways of seagate, left because of what i knew, and feel sorry for the workers left but not the pos execs who sold out for the big $. garbage people.

RSU were given only to people identified as critical to the business operation as a retainer. If you got one you are probably not going to be laid off in the next couple of years. But ya never know.
