Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

Lessons learned from prior layoff

Hey everyone,

I was laid off in the last round and finally landed a job. I had a handful of offers after maybe 150 applications. Some notes:

  1. ignore the placement service regarding resume advice
  2. leverage linkedin for your network. Find companies you really want to work for then message people in that department on linkedin to ask questions about the team and then leverage that into a possible connection/reference
  3. never bad mouth crown (obviously)
  4. make sure your resume has quantifiable projects that answer the "so what?" for the recruiters and hiring manager
  5. utilize recruiters as often as you can
  6. prepare to be rejected a lot. It will help mentally

Apparently the office I used was terrible but others have had better experience so YMMV. They just gave me awful advice.

The placement service is hit/miss. The Miami office goes through their Caribbean office and it is horrible. I asked to switch to their California one which is better.

Research the company you are interviewing for. If they have or had a relationship with Crown expect an automatic denial. I've had several. Also expect lower pay. Not because Crown paid better but due to market drops overall. Even Crown is rehiring roles at lower rates.

Did the placement service mess up your resume? I’m using the new one and it seems to be working for me.
