Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

PIP performance evaluation

So after almost 11 years at AIG, I am put on a PIP plan after "returning" to work however still working from home. I worked from Home for aprox 4 years, I am terrified due to my injury to my leg and still healing having to walk all over in the office and falling in the winter months going in (WI snow and ice). My ACL and knee still swells so icing and elevating is necessary and I can't do that in the office.

I had to file a ADA claim last week to keep working from home however, not sure if that will go through. I was just put on a Performance Evaluation thou today. I think they are trying to wrongfully terminate me because I am not coming in the office due to my surgery and medical.

Anyone at AIG ever survive a PIP? Shall I retain an employment lawyer now or afterwards.

AIG is a despicable PIG for putting you on a PIP for ostensibly BullSh!t reasons to lay you off so that they do Not need to pay severance in addition to age discrimination and ADA discrimination. As others have stated here, go to an employment lawyer immediately. You definitely have a case. People seem to forget that AIG caused the Economic Crisis and Recession in 2008. AIG was vilified by the media and people worldwide, with protests and riots. AIG took US$183 Billion in taxpayer money in order for it to Not go bankrupt. The USA should have let AIG fail and saved Lehman instead! The media, journalists and protesters were appropriately calling AIG, PIG, AIG = Adventures in Greed. AIG went so far as to temporarily change its official name to Chartis Insurance as a euphemism to try to stem all of the backlash and protests. After 2014, the PIG changed its name back to AIG once it thought the protests and riots decreased. You can put Lipstick on a PIG, but it's STILL A PIG !

The company uses this as a strategic secret tool to lay off people. This is used clearly as an age discrimination tool in both AIG and corebridge to layoff people.

That must thing this year. Six people in my office alone are on it . In addition to me. I personally think it's their way of lowering "bonuses".

Retain a solicitor or I guess you blokes call a lawyer. Document everything. When they do sack you, if they don’t give you a decent package, you have the basis for action.

AIG should just allow 3 days of WFH a week, that's the sweetspot IMO. But in any case, if full remote working isn't in your contract, you can't do much about it. They will do exceptions only when it's convenient to them and probably this isn't the case

You have given really specific details about your situation and have made yourself quite easily identifiable.

If I was you I would delete this thread before they use it against you.

I wouldnt give specifics in future. The majority of AIG employees / managers are aware of this site and look at it. You do need to be careful with what you say and make sure you don't give yourself up!

I appreciate your responses. Just learned that my manager was Inquiring about my personal life and how much I talked to coworkers outside of work. Seems fishy to inquire about this. Also fishy the coworker that I talked to all the time didn't immediately tell me about this but said something weeks later.

Also during the PIP meeting, I feel like they are making up scenarios in order to terminate me without a severance package.
Based on the coworkers response, I full heartily belive coworkers are not your friends outside of work.

They know I still have a Dr's note and will be getting an updated one. Terrified to resnap this acl during winter.

I am going to call an employment lawyer tomorrow and see if they will take the case on contingency.

Get a lawyer. Get everything in writing. If you have a legal services benefit, see if you can use that for your benefit. Protect yourself because HR is here to protect Peter, his cronies, and the company.

So it starts… have heard that PZ wants people removed if they aren’t returning to the office and he has to approve all remote requests. Likely the PIP will stipulate that you must be in the office a certain number of days so if you don’t, it will be considered not meeting expectations and you will be fired for cause. This is going to get ugly but know that AIG will settle out of court as I have seen a couple cases where people took action and AIG offered $ to make it go away quietly.

Speak to an attorney immediately on contingency.

Tell your boss you have been suffering from alcoholism and want to seek treatment (this prevents you from being fired under ADA).
