Thread regarding Capital One layoffs

The Reality

The Reality (& encouragement for those being asked to leave the company or who are fearful of what is to come). If you are experiencing what feels like a bizarre layoff or an unjustifiable “below strong” / PIP, please recognize that this is actually based upon a company’s performance and mismanagement of its leadership and top executives, not you. It is because the company and it’s leaders have made poor decisions over the years that the company is now “right-sizing” through such extreme measures as an exponential increase in layoffs and “performance-based” separation packages. Don’t forget, both methods of decreasing staffing numbers comes at a significant cost to the company (financial, reputation, investor-relations) — a cost that is only justifiable when the company is truly in trouble. If you were only one of a few being laid off, this would be a different story. However, look around: it’s not. There are throngs that have gone before you that want to encourage you: keep your head up! Find a much better opportunity at another company that has more competent and experienced leadership. There is much better life after this company and I’m so pleased you get the opportunity to experience this. While it may feel “personal” for a moment, when you look at the bigger pictures and read between the lines — I hope you’ll find that being paid to exit, regardless of the method, is truly a gift before things become even worse within the company and it’s culture. Best of luck out there. You are worth it and you deserve better!

Last year same time, my manager in Fraud Data Science, wrote lies about my work performance on my PIP. I was initially shocked and devastated.I wish they were more transparent with me. They kind of gradually put me in that direction by ignoring me and not giving me any work. However in hindsight, that was one of the best things that happened to me. Got a good severance and a pay increase in new firm.

I got pip in CP1 and offer a severance package. At the beginning I was shock because how much I contributed to the team.
Then my skip read the reviews from my teammate, one of engineer gave really awful review which I dont agree with.
Anyway, then I accepted it (no, this hurt, denying my work and hurting my dignity). Then I start looking for new job with really bad mentality.
Somehow I got a job in Amazon and TC is double and more than my TC in cap1. After I join Amazon and received my severance package from cp1.
I instantly received a load of cash way more than i made last year.
And i have no gap between cp1 and amazon. Even though it starts very badly but end up in a way i am so fking happy.
Money etc( amazon sign on is big).
Now i am making double money i make in cp1.
Downside is amazon also has pip, i will fully accept it.
Looking forward to get my another severance at the same time i will keep the mentality of seeking a new job every moment.

Thanks. The hard part is overcoming the gaslighting that you are a bad person or not contributing when your own manager steals credit for your hard work and you're in the twilight zone in disbelief.

Agreed! It's been almost 6 years to the day after declining to participate in my PIP, and getting out of C1 has been the best thing that happened to me. Found a job that appreciated my talents and allowed me to go into areas the C1 would never have offered. My stress level dropped, and I started sleeping better. It did take a while to understand that just because some management at C1 decided I needed to go, didn't mean that I was a failure. Also, I have to admit it felt good closing out my Card and moving my money market account to another bank. To sum up, I'm glad to be out of C1 but I'll always be pi---d at the way C1 went about canning me.
