Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

You guys astound me.

Post after post of “when are they laying off next”,”who will it be”,”what level will it include”,”which regions” etc…..

Who care? I’m telling you now, and I’ll place it in all caps to draw attention….OTHER SECTORS ARE HIRING!!!

Forget the financial industry, forget the moderators of this board, forget the HR trolls with their rah rah Citi is awesome posts, move on to another sector.

Leverage the he-l out of the LinkedIn job search. Its free, you can filter on pay scale and remote work filters if you want. Take your knowledge, take your skills and move on. Move past the “work extra extra extra hard or you’ll be let go”. Call that bluff and YOU lay Citi off and move on. YOU give Citi YOUR evaluation of the company and YOU find that they do NOT meet YOUR expectations and just move on to another company probably making more money working elsewhere. Its quite liberating.

Job searched kicked off a month ago, interviewed, got hired. Are there layoffs in all sectors, yes. Has hiring slowed down for some companies or even stopped for others, yes. Did it keep me from trying, obviously not.

Right about now, someone feels the need to type “I call BS because if you did get a job you wouldn’t be on this board now.” This is often a safety net said to make people feel more comfortable with “all I can do is wait” or “I’ve done all I can, I’m at the companies mercy”.

The reason I am here making this post now is to let others know there are other avenues than the status quo. Sometimes, just sometimes, you have to blaze your own trail. Sometimes you have to make your own dinner table rather than settling for scraps from the master’s plate. If you are not appreciated and\or feel like you are going no where it costs absolutely nothing to job search and submit for it. Don’t let the naysayers convince you that Citi is as best as its going to get for you.

Sorry but I’m gonna wait it out, and if and when it’s my time to be let go, I’ll gladly leave with my full year of severance, who doesn’t love getting paid for doing nothing in return.

@OP+1pP4UBMp, yes, other industries are hiring, and other industries are laying off, too. Just as Citi is hiring and laying off. Surely you don't think finance is the only industry with layoffs? Don't make me laugh.

OTHER SECTORS ARE HIRING!!!
NO. Most companies (includes Non-banks and Non-financial institutions) are also doing layoffs just like Citi. Many employers are in a hiring freeze just like Citi. Employers with open requisitions are hiring at a slower pace or have fewer job openings compared to previous years.

OTHER SECTORS ARE HIRING!!!

no, they are really not
i'm surprised salaries have not been reduced
maybe fast food joints have some openings
you might see a small pay cut though

Correct. Citi the only place that ever hires, no other company ever does. Don’t bother being proactive ever, never look at any other job postings from anywhere else. Work triple extra hard in hopes that it’ll make a difference come layoff decision making time and if you do get let go, you can only ever apply at other financial institutions only. All other sectors are forbidden for you to look at. This is what they want you to believe.

It's funny how the post about mods deleting posts got deleted and then this one pops up. Lol. Don't listen to the OP. LinkedIn and Indeed are both oversaturated with applicants.

Network and use your connections, but only if you have to move on. Don't let the opinions of others make you miss out on your severance. I'm sure that's exactly what the company is hoping to accomplish.

I’m ringing the BS bell. Surely anyone who found greener pastures would have better things to do than come back here to troll former co-workers. If not, then that is a sad commentary. Get a life bro.

@ the OP
If you have already moved on a couple of months ago why in the heck are you still posting on this board? Oh, it's called you have a right to post right? Lol. People can ask questions here (like the ones you mentioned) and make comments if they want to do so.

Don't read posts if the questions makes you frustrated enough to write in capital letters. Lol. Focus on your new gig. :)

Not easy.. Each job has 1500+ applicants on linkedin alone. 250000 people were let go in 2023. So OP - if you have already moved on. Zip up. If not, be grounded.

To @rcp+1pP4UBMp:
OP here, more like “guy who’s already moved on to another job already two months ago”
