Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

SaaS lay offs today

Today morning in the US multitude of people (including whole teams with Directors) in CX SaaS were laid off. They got 12 min meetings in the morning and were let go on the spot.
Got meeting group meeting scheduled today, so may be we survived and will get more details. There were no prior rumors in our department, so it seemingly comes from nowhere.

All execs are bragging how layoffs help in better margins and not have to think about product not selling. This is race to the bottom.

With all the VP promotions they needed to balance the org by laying off hard working engineers.

Why no communication from the org leaders? NO transparency. All need to know what is happening from this board. Pathetic!!!

Based on the sad state of the org it can be concluded the product is not relevant anymore.

It is funny how good they are at picking a wrong person\team for layoffs. There are entire teams in CX who do not deliver anything ever but are great at making noice and replaying same work again and again every year to survive. I now fear for the customers with only d-mbos left around in org with a few exceptional folks doing most of the work and may retire soon.

"Just a quick 5 min zoom and a very long career is over."

Feel really bad for you. If nothing else, this post will make long serving loyal employees to jump off this ship.

Just a quick 5 min zoom and a very long career is over. Even after serving my entire career, running a very large team, building software, minting $100+ Million in YOY revenue and I still could not afford a house. Stuck with legacy technology knowledge no one wants in other companies with age that's discriminated in tech companies.

I am feeling like biggest fool now and learned loyalty never pays.

Hard Lessons-

Self serve first. Corporate companies are not your friend. They are there to make money even if US citizens suffer. Cheap outsourced labor will one day take your job anyway.
Keep your self relevant by learning market relevant technologies. In today's time, stick to open source technologies. Do not work on proprietary technologies. In case you are stuck, have an exit plan.
Do not be lured by false future promises. Stick to what can be compensated in present. No one knows future, not even your boss or his boss.
You will be taken advantage of if you allow that t happen. Fight for your rights diplomatically if personal situation allows else have an exit plan ready.
Do not stay for more than 2 years in a place unless you see string future growth
Maintain a work life balance. I regret this as time lost will never come back.
Try getting side income, you never know when your side hustle will turn out to be life saver.
Save as much as you can and invest wisely.

90% of CX org does everything other than coding a.k.a chase fake issues, "manage regression", Release mgmt, process improvement etc.... Elon M would let most go.

Do we have numbers across IDC and US?

I don't think you can know that unless you are a VP.
In our team (senior director and down), around half are laid off, in IDC only 1 person is left. It was more brutal than summer of previous year.

There is nothing in the WARN notices/disclosures in CA or TX of OCL having layoffs. Didn’t see any for the layoffs earlier this year either. I don’t know how they are getting around making the disclosures.

(FYI you can Google “WARN Act (state)” and go to the .gov result to see notices/disclosures for that state. Each state seems to provide the info in a different format.)

Wheels have fallen off CX. Jokers can continue to stay here and keep collecting titles every year.

“ incompetent bootlickers around.”

Yes they will stay because they failed to negotiate a good salary and ok with mediocre in their life, The good ones are gone along with their pay checks. This has been a budget exercise to keep LE happy.

Based on the constant layoffs in CX, there is no benefit to stay here. This is a sinking ship.

"What ticks me off is in when they select a hardworking person for layoff and choose to keep the incompetent bootlickers around."

No point in working hard. Culture of sycophancy or bootlicking is rampant and the only way to advance. Hiring and promotions are based on the friends and family program.

Layoffs, particularly around the holiday season, can be especially tough for employees and their families. It's unfortunate when companies choose such timings for these decisions.

In fact, to have a long history of continuous layoffs, especially when they're structured in a rolling manner like Oracle's with thousands of employees affected, can be incredibly challenging. The timing, especially around the holiday season, adds an extra layer of difficulty for those affected.

CX Sales were non existent, exec's have been milking the Siebel and Right now revenue streams and packaging it as their achievement. Across SAAS there is very little growth too including ERP/HCM. Building powerpoint's and confluence pages can only take you so far.

I've been laid off from CX, and yes, it's so clear it's because we have VP over VP over VP who just get into 2 meetings a day, working from home, and changing minor stuff in requirements so that they feel they're doing work...

It is amazing that RT is still here. Every other exec thinks he is a joke. They rightly took CX sales away from him and gave it to someone who knows what he is doing. CX sales is improving due to RT not being around. CX product is a disorganized mess bc RT cannot manage. Kind of insulting that he is still here. Apparently the captain rows away by himself in a life boat while the crew and passengers go down with the ship.
