Every manager in my district has this week off for PTO, yet when I asked my manager for flexibility a month ago for an urgent medical appt this week that needs two hours off, there is no capacity and I’m SOL. It is ridiculous how front line managers get to come in and dip out whenever they please. For example, my manager works a closing shift maybe once every two months, where I cannot get a shift bid off of a closing shift even with 2 Made for Excellence awards within the last year.
My managers got an all day Eagle Day, team building outings to baseball games, and they can always leave for appts or to pick up their kid , but we are chained to the desk. Before you say, well that is a perk of management, managers seem to anchor in my department and stay forever, so there never are openings and people who would love to lead and are fully qualified never get a chance to. Sorry for the frustrated rant, I am just tired of the bullsh-t.

I know that feeling very well! During my time as a frontline MSR, my manager was never there, she’d get in around 10am, drop her stuff at her desk and leave, pop back around 1130am to say she was going to lunch, come back around 1pm, to send us an email stating she’s leaving for the day. Yet when I needed time off to get my wisdom teeth removed, there was no time in NICE, so I asked her, even said I can come back the next day and talk with a mouth full of gauze and painkillers, she said nope, there was nothing she could do and to either wait until time opens up or take an occurrence. She eventually moved to a new team, and the new manager approved my time off for my wisdom teeth surgery, he even told me, don’t come back until I feel 100% and the surgeon says it’s ok.
