I'd like to approach my manager and tell him I'd be willing to volunteer for the next round of layoffs. I've been thinking about this for a while, and the only reason I haven't done it yet is because that would indicate I was ready to leave and instead they could decide to wait me out. Is this a possibility?

8syx+1pFqwz2A. You don't know anything about the OP circumstances. There is no need to be unkind. You are revealing yourself to have the exact temperament for a long career at ELV so no need for you to worry personally, and no need to make others feel bad.
@cik+1pFqwz2A: "there is life after Anthem and it’s much, much better"
"Look at me, I still check Anthem's layoff boards daily and I got fired years ago!!"
Two words: QUIET. QUIT.
That should get you folks what you want.
Unless you are way underworked and way overpaid, I don't think it is going to work. They appear to be going after people with high salaries to get the bang for the buck per rif.
I put my name in the hat to be riffed three years ago and I am STILL here... UGH!!! Being overworked and average or underpaid will most likely prevent you from being riffed even if you volunteer.
So I tried this. I went both to my skip-level as well as to the HRBP. My pleas went to the wind. I'm still here. WTF.
I wouldn't unless you are prepared. Are you in a position where you would have to go back to work ? Is your resume updated Have you looked and tried networking into a different area. I would try to take advantage of the classes, education the company has to offer. most importantly FINANCES. Make sure your set. Maybe next year will hold a brighter future
What !!! work and stay strong .. are you kidding!!! Why in the world would you do that for a company who does not give an ounce of care about you and would lay you off the first chance they can. Just ride it out, come to work on time, leave on time, do what is expected of you and nothing more. Soon enough you will get that call from your manager with HR and this whole night mare will be over. Believe me, coming from somebody who has gone through all of this, there is life after Anthem and it’s much, much better. Just hang in there.…
I highly suggest you don't volunteer, that will just show that they have broken your spirit and are now the numb workaholic they want in place. Work hard and stay strong, do the right thing, and speak truth and accuracy, those are the ones that are removed. Also, help your offshore counterpart learn what and how to do your job the best they can, that's the fastest track to the RIF list.
