Were there any layoffs announced last week ? How many people are affected ?

Not to worry, inept AVPs are safe and will certainly have a Merry Christmas. Also, Christmas doesn't exist to this now non-American company. Can any of the ELT muster the courage to utter the words, "Merry Christmas"?
They just emailed us the severance plans and said, in case we need them.
Legal
NY and NJ offices have some "retirements" underway.
I know at least two people laid off in Cary since Thanksgiving. Anyone else heard of layoffs last week?
I guess if they are doing layoffs like everyone else says they are then I should probably start applying. I see tons of upper level positions on LinkedIn in for AVPs and above what are they just purging those levels ! Maybe I should apply to some and take a shot you never know.
@4uhs+1pFYNIgs - Any job is better than no job. I understand that.
But, if you are young, and tasted a startup, it's in your blood and you will leave. Take your time. Find something that looks good, and take a chance. Try not to let your technical skills atrophy, as I can testify they will.
The name of the game at a startup is to produce something of value, find customers for it, and grow. It typically involves changing the way people think about something or use something. You'll do any job needed to make things happen. Startups are high risk, and sometimes high reward.
The name of the game at MetLife appears to be to get control of some resource, and lord it over any other group that needs it. You are respected for the resources that you control, the budget that you have and the title you have. You can be an incompetent AVP, but if you have the title, it's worth something. Employees do only the job they were asked to do. Most would not survive in a startup. At MetLife, never violate the rules, written or unwritten. Never infringe on another fiefdom's fief. Always report good news and keep the PowerPoint bar green.
If there is a new CEO or boss, pay homage to whatever he/she does. Learn to say the buzz words. "Green. Diversity Agile. Lean. Equity. Mental Health. Veteran. Liverpool. Total Shareholder Return. Artificial Intelligence. Responsible." There. You're on your way to "leadership".
I started in mid July, and oh for sure I absolutely loved the startup, like dream job. I oversaw and was managing over 20 people. But unfortunately we were shut down... so yeah had to pivot!
And lol yes I've been told all those things. I also don't manage anyone anymore and don't really get the reason why I'm not respected more for my leadership skills. But then again I was hired for a low level position and not director or other kinda position
Well @3hrt+1pFYNIgs, did you like it at the startup? If not, maybe I'm wrong and you will love it here.
How long have you been here?
Have you tried to do anything new here and been told "no"?
Have you tried to use a new software tool, and been told it isn't approved?
Have you tried to get a new tool approved?
Have you figured out that a "new tool" means at least 5 years old?
Have you been told there's no budget to work on something, but you're not working on much, or much important anyway?
It might be that the young people just leave on their own for greener pastures, not that they are terminated.
Also why are there no young people ... I'm like youngest person I see in the building by like 30 years. All laid off over the years because of no seniority?
Replying :
Why will I hate it? I mean granted it's not as good of a job as my last one, but I work a lot less hours.
20s BA in CS, MBA from Top Ten program, I would have thought MetLife such an old company is full of Ivy Leaguers as well but nobody I work with went to any in my area of the business; not until the highest levels.
@3wnc+1pFYNIgs: You are going to hate it here.
There are cuts every week. They keep the weekly numbers below the reporting threshold to avoid news alerts.
Recent MetLife hire - should I be worried !! I'm in my 20s work in Tech, not sure if I'm a good culture fit coming from a startup where there was so many less layers of management and bureaucracy...
The never say they are done. Rarely ever admit to laying off.
@1lij+1pFYNIgs which department? I thought they are done with layoffs
No announcements. Just lay-offs.
