UHC did another round of layoffs today and my entire team, associate director and all were cut. We work in PI and there were others within the department cut as well. I’m heartbroken but not shocked. I hope I can land another role in the company because I do like United Healthcare. I won’t lie this will be life changing for me and my family so it saddens me.

12 week’s severance for 5 years employment?! They was very generous to you. They usually only give 1 week per year, which for you would have been 5 weeks severance. You got 2+ weeks per year. Was your grade level high?
Time to unionize people!!! Profits over people. How does anyone with any moral backbone allow this to continue?
I was RIF'ed in Nov 2023. 5 years+1 month of longevity, 12 weeks severance.
Why would you want to go back to UHC? Their severance is not good, other companies giving 2 weeks for every year and UHC gives about 1 week for every year worked. Other I'm familiar with is letting our employees stay for 60 days, UHC lets you stay until the end of your pay period and doesn't want you doing ANY hand-off work. How is this fair for the employees who have to pick up the slack? Optum and UHC have this weird relationship which I never understood. Is it just a way to get around regulations and deny claims more often? You'll see that share price and dividend stay high, shareholders matter more than employees. It makes me question if we as a society should have our healthcare decided by Publicly Traded Companies.
