I was told that managers didn't not know who will be laid off and were surprised but I am not sure if that is only the typical B$ they tell you.
My sl--eball manager didn't even bother to call me or send an email/message after I got let go.

There was an NDA in place. Some knew, some didn’t. The silence was deafening around work leading up to the layoff.
They didn't know
Bunch of pu----s! They can't even man up and tell you to your face. They get a couple of HR people to do it. A-s holes.
I’m a manager. I did not know.
Even if mine did not know I would have expected him to at least reach out after I was laid off. Spineless a-hole.
When I got the call it was a manager 2-3 levels above mine and a HR (P&C) guy who was just reading off a script.
And of all my colleagues and team only 2 out of 30 reached out. It's not like you are contagious after you are laid off.
Does it even matter? I was treated pretty cr-ppy. I wouldn't recommend Viasat to anybody looking for a job.
My manager never reached out afterwards. He sounded like he had a g-n to his head on the layoff call - very nervous and robotic. He did tell me a few weeks prior to the layoff not to worry about job stability, so maybe he didn’t know in advance. I still have bitter feelings towards him and his boss…
Mine definitely did not know - I was slacking with my mgr while I was on the phone receiving the bad news. My mgr was upset to not be in the loop. Has been supportive since, we spoke live immediately after and a few times since.
