Thread regarding Suncor Energy Inc. layoffs

Anyone know of a commuter who was laid off?

In a bizarre reflection of who got laid off, I realized that all the commuters I know have been mysteriously protected from layoffs. This could be wrong if someone can mention they know of someone. Everyone I know that got laid off has their main properties right here in Fort Mac. I would rather be laid off as a commuter, then I wouldn’t have to worry about this property. Or if only I rented, I could just pack up and leave. Or if I lived in Calgary and worked at the Suncor downtown office, I suppose it wouldn’t be so bad.

It’s not just older people 50+ that got laid off though. The average might be skewed towards older yes but there are new hires laid off, as well as some people mid-career 30s to early 40s.

echoing observation that it was older staff that were disproportionately hit.

It is a bizarre reflection. A lot of people were laid off in Calgary as well and they were not commuters.
If there is a pattern of who was laid off, it is not the commuters for sure.

It seems more focused on 50 years old people or older who are being expensive for Suncor due to high contributions towards the retirement plan and other benefits. You know, it is the expensive staff. Also, a lot of contractors were laid off in Calgary and they were not commuters.

I know several people in Calgary, who were great employees, great performers, and for sure getting very good benefits and pension plans, and they were laid off. Now, the remaining people who are not necessary the best or very efficient have to do those tasks.

It is what it is, just let it go and move forward !
