Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Stop working so hard!

They reduce staff but demand better results. They lie and say all sorts of things to get you to work harder and to deflect from mass layoffs. They need us to clean up the mess that they created. If Cigna is going to treat us like petulant children, act like one! You’re probably about to lose your job! Working harder while you wait to get laid off is pretty pathetic

"Treat them as you are treated "

I agree with this logic. Meaning we should all tell our employer we love working here and that we all will continue to work hard, but not really mean it.

Yes, you should encourage other to stop working hard. When has that ever panned out for the employee? Treat them as you are treated.

I would also add do don't give up all your secrets that makes you in your role successful. Depending on your role, many of us are tasked with documenting our process. I strongly recommend you document the bare minimum of your process so to the untrained eye it looks complete, but keep your "tips and tricks" that make you successful to yourself. I am seeing roles being eliminated, and posting of open positions for similar roles (probably at a lower band/pay). Management would love to hire someone cheaper and give them your processes to do your job for less. Lets make that more difficult for them to do.

The point is that your job is not safe right now, regardless of how hard you work. And even if it is, they don't care about you as a person. You are a number and easily disposable. It doesn't matter if you've been working for Cigna for a year or 25 years. It doesn't matter if you're a top performer who has been working yourself to death year-over-year. Their whole goal is to wring as much work from you as possible for as cheap as possible, and if executive bonuses are at risk, they will weed out people for any reason at all. There's a difference between doing your job and going above and beyond. OP is just saying don't push yourself for an employer that has zero loyalty towards loyal employees. Don't work extra hours for nothing. Don't do more than your job description. Your boss isn't your family, whatever they may tell you.

I am on the same side as you but it’s going to be the same thing in America. It’s a corporate culture. Layoffs have happened before and will continue to happen in every sector. You should not encourage other people to stop working hard because you don’t care for your job.
There are other people who still need to perform to thier best abilities as they need this job. Don’t be like a termite . You can look for another job as well.
