Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Telco heads to Tech heads?

I am confused. We are a telco. We sell mostly connectivity and voice- the classic telco stuff. Yeah there is some enterprise targeted business...

Where is the tech coming from? Yes, its all technology-based but we are not a tech company. We are a telco! Anyone beg to differ?

We have been the naive beta testers for failed software and technologies for decades while paying them for the privilege and actually thinking we were getting a good deal. Most of this has come from IBM, but also other companies and consulting firms have benefitted from our poor judgement and greedy/corrupt executives who just do deal after deal with poor performing partners.

Yet we keep coming back for more.

FCC has given permission to turn off all TDM services at the latest 2029. So a few more years at most for copper

Whether we are referred to as telecommunications company or tech company.
The end of days of copper is upon us.
Majority of the employees will be packing their bags

It's obvious that Lumen is suffering from identity dysphobia.
CTL was a Telco & L3 was a Techco.
JS always stated that the combined company was a Tech Company.
When KJ came along, right away and numerous times since she has said that we are a Telco. She's busting her buttons over being on the list of best Telcos. However, that list was graded on a curve and the bar was pretty low. I believe we averaged 3.8 across all categories combined, that's 76%. Hardly worth celebrating. But I guess it's the little victories and small steps that they are reaching for. Think about all the poor souls who are working some REALLY bad telcos out there if Lumen made this list!

"We are not a telecommunications company. They removed that from our company name"

If that's the case, why did they post on InsideLumen on 10/16/23 that we are one of the best "Telecomms Companies to work for 2024"

It's right there on the homepage highlighting the US News article.

"Question... Is Enterprise/national offering services outside of our territories like a CLEC? Did we keep anything in the areas we sold to Apollo?"

Yes and yes.

Instead of bankruptcy, I think Lumen will spinoff Centurylink from Quantum sooner than later.
They let Centurylink die in slow agony.

"Anyone who thinks traditional services will be around for next 5 years are delusional.
Lumen is looking to get rid of copper without getting penalized from FCC."

Completely agree, but this company will be dismantled in 5yrs. Once they declare chapter 11 & the debts gone everything will be split up & sold. The only question is which company will own whatever division of this wonderful company we work for. Kate & her executive team, Board of directors will be sitting around counting their golden parachute money bathing in the sun. No delusion in my mind, my only regret is not shorting our stock at $7

lumen can't make it as a tech company because its been failing at IT for the last 20 years and still operates in a highly inefficient and dysfunctional way overall

I agree that we're and will get throat punched with our lack of anything other than a physical line product. The former CEO'S definitely hurt us & Kate sure isn't going to find us a solution for the lack of wireless

The original FIOS deployment sub-1G BPON (ATM based). QF is not that thankfully.

Lol, it's funny that some in here don't realize we're still basically a service provider that's stuck within utility easements. The Quantum fiber is about 15yrs behind when Verizon rolled out their equivalent FIOS. Do a little research how many people subscribe to any line based service providers(fiber, cable, & copper) that pass their homes or businesses and you'll see it's in the 30-35% range. They attempt to compare us with Verizon, T-mobile, & AT&T, but in reality they all have wireless services everywhere . You're delusional if you think we can compete with them especially outside of our footprint, and honestly we can't compete within our footprint. Late to the party for decades and near death with no future. Thanks to the visions of our past CEO's that never merged us with T-mobile or Sprint wireless when they were still separate companies struggling like us 10yrs ago.

Keep drinking that Kool-aid off InsideLink or whatever the homepage is called today. The flavor of the day & propaganda on there changes regularly. Your savior Quantum Fiber won't carry us into the future, the only Disruption going on here is delusion to reality

We are not a telecommunications company. They removed that from our company name. It was replaced with technologies. Lumen Technologies. With Paas, the Microsoft security deal and other government contracts; we really don't know what the f we are trying to sell. We do not offer media streaming, cell phones, cellular service, or even own towers. Our first Quantum Fiber commercial came out showing what people already have. In fact, it was kind of d-mb. So this person has smart devices in their apartment, ok. Nothing about speed levels, costs or discounts. Just ends with Quantum Fiber. It should have ended with a disclaimer NOT AVAILABLE in MOST areas.

Telco was dead years ago. Lumen is just late to the party. The party will be over soon.
Last person standing. Please leave the lights on and leave. Lumen will be joining the new party without you.

Tech companies don't need to make money or generate a return to investors (owners). Or be accountable for results. It's tech, it's cool!

Storey, whatever his faults, wasn't d-mb enough to think it was anything other than a smokescreen. Book Club Kate is such a lightweight that she really thinks this is a tech company.
