Its a manager and director thing. Qcom doesnt side with anyone. I have had HR intervention because of aweful managers and they are still there, not 1 but 3 managers. I am still here and they are still there. Lets see tomorrow who they side with.
the new hires are especially at risk because :
- you are too new to matter and have any impact on the team
- you havent had the time to shine any rears of upper management , so they wont fight for you anyways

Unless your team is completely getting canned or your manager or director is playing favorites, you should be fine.
Assuming you are competent, if you get laid off tomorrow and your team is not, then it is your manager or director sacrificing you to keep one of their friends.
