Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

POC disproportionately affected

Has anyone else noticed that people of color were disproportionately affected by lay-offs? In my team, the majority of people impacted were black and brown... This seems odd in light of Centene's supposed DEI.

@wej+1p0PeiwT POc refers to all non whites, not just blacks. Please educate yourself.

They made the layoff lists like a month ahead of time, then HR spent weeks making sure there weren't legal issues or risks with the people on the list. That includes looking for discriminatory patterns.

They do the same thing every year for compensation, and if they find an issue will adjust comp. I know of one team where, whether intentionally it not, black women were paid less on average than their peers. The underpaid women got raises.

The top Centene executives are id--ts right now, but lots of parts of the organization are pretty well run.

Just tell the company to get rid of DEI because there are no cards to pull and our organization is fair, our organizational charts are representation of our equality. Why is this posted anyway ? We don’t experience any inequality in the workplace. Too many responses to this, to not have any problems.

When your only card is “racism”, you play it over and over and over….

I don't understand all the animosity and anger at your post. Many have said they thought older workers were disproportionately targeted and people agreed. I didn't see anyone say well young people matter too and grow up. When race is mentioned how angry people get is something else. I personally know black, white, and Hispanic that were laid off. It is possible in some areas more POC were affected and others more white people. I do not think though your post should've gotten that much anger as it's not out of the realm of possibility for any company to discriminate for any reason. If you aren't someone who discriminates against others than the original posters post should not bother you.

The majority of people on my team are POC. The one person on our team laid off is white.

Seriously…Centene attorneys are way to smart to not make sure every age, color, ethnicity, religion, and s-xual orientation/identity across all the company were laid off. That’s lay-off 101. They aren’t going to hand anyone lawsuit material.

POC is all non white, for the person referencing black life. The company considers Hispanic, asian, and etc as POC as well. Please educate yourselves before posting ignorance.

Please don’t pull the POC card, this is affecting everyone black, white ,Hispanic etc etc etc. Black life’s aren’t the only ones that matter we “ALL” matter!!!!

I don’t think they’d get anywhere near that. If certain teams in certain locations were made up of more POC, then it might seem that way.
