What Day of the Week do Layoffs Occur?

What is the typical day of a week that individuals/teams get laid off? Friday? Monday? Any day is fair game?

There is a Y at the end of each day of the week and a Y in layoff. So a layoff can be any day of the week.

Just going by what’s happened the last 12-14 months, lay-offs have occurred on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.

Specifically for layoffs: I think they back into it so that your last day (with 60 day notice) falls on a Friday. I was notified on Tuesday, May 16 and last day was July 14. When I was notified on Tuesday morning, I was told I could take the rest of the day & Wednesday off (w/o using PTO) to process everything mentally.

My team was given a layoff notice on Wed 03/29/23 and then it completed on 03/30/23. Our last day was 06/02/2023

Be scared, can happen any day, any time. Maybe the holidays?

Wednesday/Thursday seems to be the trend, at least from what I have seen.

Being in HR, layoffs on Fridays. Gives the employee time to go home decompress over the weekend, file for unemployment on Monday.
